Pensacola | Former Gannetter Horne named pub

Horne
Corporate just announced that Terry Horne, chief executive of the privately held East Valley Tribune in Tempe, Ariz., has been hired as publisher of the Pensacola News Journal in Florida. Horne replaces Carol Hudler, who has been interim publisher since early November.

Prior to his Arizona post, Horne was CEO of the Orange County Register from 2007 to 2011. He is returning to Gannett, where he served as vice president of community newspapers for The Arizona Republic from 2004-2007, according to Corporate's press release.

    1. If she needs ideas, I can give her a few suggestions.

And she can take her pal Hurst in Jackson with her.

  2. Again, so with all the great talent within Gannett, there wasn't a single one who could step into the role of Pensacola publisher? In typical Dickey fashion, we hire from outside the company yet again?

    1. Too much inbreeding already. Why you have problem going outside company?

  3. I'm very surprised they didn't move Hurst into this job. She's been in Jackson 3-4 years now, which is just about her limit. It's all she can stand of one place and way more than those who work there can stand of her. Well, she lets so many of them go that the ones who are left actually like her, or at least tolerate her. Those who don't are jettisoned or just flat-out quit. She has done so much to alienate so many in the community, including major advertisers. When I think of all the good things Bill Hunsberber did for the C-L and for the C-L's reputation in that community it makes me sad to see what those who have followed him did to destroy the reputation, especially Larry Whitaker and now Leslie Hurst.

  5. Wow! That's all I can say. That's what we come up with after all this time? Really tells you something about this company. Ugh.

  8. Dickey needs all the special assistance he can get, especially off the tee.

  9. Hudler was standing in as the intirim publisher. She came on after former publisher Kevin Doyle and executive editor Dick Scheidner simultaneously retired on short notice last fall. (on the way out the door they also fired the managing editor and senior columnist, leaving the digital editor and marketing director in charge of the entire paper with two weeks notice. It was quite the bloodbath, even by Gannett standards.)
