What I'm doing right now

9:51 p.m., San Francisco time: Live-blogging a layoff while wearing a $2.99 Santa Claus hat from Walgreens.

  1. Nice hat. It goes well with the glasses!

  2. Love ya, Jim! You're someone I'd welcome at my dinner table, wish you were my neighbor. Cute, funny and smart, love to know you better. And this coming from a married hetero gal! You are friend to all.

  3. Jim, I think you are awesome too! I really admire how you have dedicated yourself to this blog. You are going to have your work cut out for you over the next few days.

Good luck to you and to all of us too!

  4. Too cute.
Anyone who can entertain and inform at the same time has my vote.
Just compare what you're doing to how Gannett works. Readers have to click one place for entertainment, somewhere else for information. I hope the company takes a lesson from your success.

  5. Jim,
Thanks for making me feel a little bit better with the "Santa" video yesterday. Keep up the good work. This week we all we need you more than ever.
    Peace

  6. Thank you, all! That's the kind of encouragement that's going to keep me going the next couple of days. (And you're right: We're all in for some L-O-N-G days.)

  7. Don't ya just love Walgreens??
You look fantastic!! Here's some good news for those of us that have been laid off...

I get to spend more time with my family than ever before.

I get to actually enjoy the holidays for once.

My house has never been cleaner!

It's a really good excuse to not buy all that expensive stuff!!!

  8. Hey Jimbo

Today Tuesday December 2 is a historic day for you and your blog! This is the mother-load-all-time high for comments!!

  9. Thank you, Jim, for all you do, and for providing a bit of much-needed levity at such a depressing time. Cheers ...

  10. Jim,
What you are doing with this blog is fabulous! I know of no other group of employees who have this surreal experience of being in touch with everyone else who is simultaneously being "shafted". I'm hearing from people and places I only knew about because of that "Ganneteer" abomination!

The person who has not been acknowledged and thanked over these past few days is Sparky! Thank him for sharing you with us.
He has to be a gem of a partner.
Mine would have torn up the civil union certificate and headed out to see the lawyer weeks ago!

  11. Thanks -- from Sparky, especially!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
