"The current plan is to stay with an
ad-supported model."

-- Chief Digital Officer David Payne, speaking to MediaPost for a recent story about USA Today's plans for mobile devices. Much of the rest of Gannett's newspapers are now switching to paywalls.

  1. Exactly what does this guy do all day? Is this an actual job?

  2. He does PR, which is the primary requirement of any SVP or C-fillinpositionhere-O.

Any competence in the actual job is strictly coincidental, and based almost entirely on lower-level employees.

  3. Makes sense. Local news is valuable but national/world /entertainment/sports news aggregators are a dime-a-dozen. Even my fridge can post RSS feeds.

  4. He is re-shaping our digital future.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
