seems like everyone has either resigned themselves to their fate with gannett or IT has been sending out monitoring reports.
After trying twice to submit comments using latest Internet Explorer, I gave up. Chrome & Safari work ok.
If you're posting here using GCI equipment, you're nuts. CD himself probably gets hourly updates on any blog-bound traffic from company computers. Use your personal devices.

Steve Jobs has died. Such an innovative leader. Something Gannett will never see.
The publisher in Fort Myers is a phenomenal leader. I am happy she is at the helm. She provides the company and community with inspiration and vision.
RIP Steve, the world has lost a true visionary.One human, who was more brilliant than all Gannett management. Combined.
The word for today at the corporate meeting in Wilmington was “silo”. It appears Craig has passed this word on to everyone during his medical leave. Gracia actually seems more human than any of them. Payne was very disappointing as was Dickey. Gracia I have to say stole the show. And we all know it was a show to increase morale and show they really care, blah, blah, blah. Now everyone, repeat after me “SILO”.

Agree on Gracia. While she clearly has the site visit routine down, I think she surprised us in Wilmington by being straightforward and not lost in the corporate lingo. I don't think anybody left the room drinking the kool aid but I do think she turned some whose only impression of her had been through this blog. Now if Dubow had been there ...
While Dubow might have been saying it, he got it from Payne. The goal is to break down the silos between the divisions and operate the organization as a full-fledged media services company rather than a series of individually run one-off papers and stations.
Goodbye to Mobile Matt Jones, who was celebrated today at a going away party. After more than a decade at Gannett, he was forced out and is joining HomeDepot in Atlanta.
As someone who worked in IT for Gannett, let me assure you that no one is reading your email or monitoring where you go on the internet. No one has time for that. Originally some sites had that capability, but these days, forget it. No one is watching. They laid off Big Brother in 2009.

The not less than 20 front line upper management to be let go are? Who are they? Who are the VPs to be let go? Is this all talk just to smooth over the 1% to be let go bye years end. Any one have any info on these so called lay offs..I am in the loop and I have not seen much, how about you. Who was let go at your paper
They do a bunch of shuffling so people are confused. It usually results In less positions but is masked with "oh look we gave this person a new title or job". Recently there was an announcement about newly created USCP Sales Excellence team. 2 positions were filled internally by higher level folks. Their Former positions I suspect will go dark. 1 position was being split up and added to the group digital directors. The other position isn't necessary at the site anymore so shouldnt be filled.It's almost amusing how little credit they give everyone in the intelligence and common sense arena.Creating new positions and titles that get filled interrnally without replacing the other positions is not positive job creation. +1-1 = 0 last I checked.

Mashable, a digital darling, did a story on all the front pages of newspapers re: Steve Jobs. Thought that spoke volumes of the power of the front page.
I wouldn't be so sure (12:01) about no one watching. I personally have been requested on more than one occasion to try to find the source of anything negative being posted or published anywhere about our site. Excuse me my former site, but much more recent than 2009.

A few years back at at NY Gannett property, the paranoid and mean-spirited editor would ask IT to provide email and instant messages regarding certain staffers. We also had security cameras that swept the newsroom, so don't work on anything not work-related. Please, please, just post from home or from your personal smartphone.
You know it's a new quarter when newspapers again start up buyouts/layoffs. If you still work in the news business, get out before you are laid off or bleed out from a series of cuts to your benefits and salary. I am trying with all my might to do so, and it's not easy. But I am focused on leaving this nightmare behind.
