  2. Really? That inspires a single response:

    You suck, Jim.

  3. Why would anyone waste their time posting that, 12:43? Why do you come here if you think that, unless you are a very sorry soul? Ahhh. Unless you are PAID to come here.

Jim, this is not off-topic, so please don't delete. It says volumes about Gannett that, while the ship is gurgling under the surface of the North Atlantic, they are spending time having people try to discredit this blog. And in such a creative and effective manner! (Hardly.)

  4. About a tenth of those comments might have had some value.

Many of them are like the first reply here: Someone rushing in to toss out an insult.

Others are simply worthless gossip that Jim refuses to screen. He even pads the total with trivial replies to the various detractors.

  5. So many little things say worlds about Gannett, if you listen.

Such as how you access the site to check your insurance and 401k. It's NOT Gannett.benefits.com

    Nope.

    It's Gannett.Benefits.com

Indeed they do. And we don't.

  6. 1:01 Actually, it's benefits.gannett.com.
    This blog has become tedious.

  7. Wondering how other Gannett papers handled the football playoffs news--my local paper ran a 2 or 3 inch x 4 col. promo box at the top of page 1 for two teams that generate no interest in my part of the country. The promo just included the date and time of the Super Bowl, nothing about "see more coverage in sports" or a reference to any story today.
Pushed the real story way down on the page.

  8. This is the week that 2010 financial reports
    are due.
We all know who makes the negative, critical,
and childish remarks about Jim. Why waste
time on them. They have the need to put other
people down and make themselves feel tough and better than the rest.
Back to topic :This is probably a huge week for the 2011 plan for Gannett. Will this financial report tell us about more layoffs, closures, more consolidations ?
Any educated guesses, any leaks out there ?

  10. I'm shocked to hear that FS will no longer be at the Daily Record. To many in this area, he is the voice of the newspaper, and he is well respected by the members of this community. I think this is a very shortsighted, if not foolish, move. I am so sad to see what is happening to this once vibrant paper and to the many dedicated and talended staffmembers whose lives will be disrupted by this dismantling. Sad times, indeed.

  11. 9:26, entire Gannett Magazine unit is shutting down. At least a dozen employees affected.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 11:26am: Gannett Magazine?

    ReplyDelete
  13. 11:26: Are u referring to "USA Weekend?"

    ReplyDelete
  14. No, this was a part of USCP, not USA Today, which is a different division in the company.

  15. I asked a reader about the new magazine unit layoffs disclosed here today, including the number of jobs lost and the names of titles. Here's what they said:

"At least 12 in Phoenix. Probably some others in a domino effect. Your Health and Moms or Moms Like Me magazines, plus more emphasis . . . on many successful turnkey efforts, such as First-TIme Homebuyers Guide (five editions), Auto Guide 2011, etc. It was a good unit, but with thousands of layoffs across the country, there's not enough focus in local markets to execute special projects."

  17. I continue to wonder why someone hasn't started a blog about Gannett that offers what my critics would perceive as a more pro-company view. Anyone know why?

    ReplyDelete
  18. what's going on with the rumors about the layoffs on Feb 4?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah Jim, that might be a good idea. After all, how can someone expect a COMMUNICATIONS company like GANNETT, to tell the world how great it is?

Gannett can't even communicate with its own employees except when it's some BS rah, rah thing.

And Gannett expects to become a marketing king? Not at the rate it's going.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I second the request for any information about Feb. 4 layoffs...anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  21. So are ALL of the Moms Like Me magazines expected to shut down? I don't know how many there are, company-wide, but that's got to be more than a dozen employees affected, right?

    ReplyDelete
  22. How can someone create a pro-Gannett website when Gannett can't even do it themselves? Take a look at the corporate website. Have you ever seen anything so uninspiring?

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's not MLM that's closing. It's Your Health. The Doctors office rag.

    ReplyDelete
  24. FS is leaving the Daily Record. RM is leaving The Home News Tribune/Courier News. Getting rid of local columnists is part of the new and improved Central Jersey Three. Eh?

    ReplyDelete
  25. To Jim at 2:12 because anyone that is so pro Gannett is busy coing up with dumb ideas, kissing butt, stabbing people in the back, preaching propaganda and trying to crush anyone who disagrees with them to have the time to start a blog.

  26. 12:57 -- If you think that people need to be paid to encourage them to go onto a website and spend hours posting useless vitriol, than you haven't been around the Internet much.

  28. The unit that shut down produces magazines for various Gannett sites. Any magazines that are produced in-house are not affected. These magazines had canned content. None were produced by the information center or marketing departments.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
