Detroit | Add another name to layoff list: The Yak

[Yuck, yuck: Curtis yacked with former Freep mascot]

Former Detroit Free Press photographer Rodney Curtis wrote about getting laid off last summer. Now, he recalls another victim of that paper's June downsizing: the costumed employee who worked as the Freep's mascot, The Yak. On his blog, Curtis posted an interview he did with said Yak before a recent mascot basketball game at the University of Detroit. Plus, he's got video of the game!

A Yak for a mascot?
Curtis tells me in an e-mail that the costumed employee ("real yak hair, seriously") promoted a weekly section with comics, games and other features appealing to children.
