  1. Whassup, New Jersey? Word on any mergers, consolidations? Seems like it has been vewy-vewy quiet.

  2. Someone mentioned recently that the DR building that they are currently in is leased. I thought that Gannett owned the building but is selling it and moving into a lease. Anyone know for sure? I agree with someone that eventually all the Jersey papers (except Neptune) will be in leased sattelite offices.

  3. "NEW JERSEY ROCKS"
    BUT THE PAPERS SUCK

lets hear from some of the
    courier post slaves.

  4. Gannett owns the DR building. They are selling it and the (remaining) staff is moving to leased office space in a few months. We're only using about half the space in the building, with production, finance, most of circ and marketing all gone. Makes sense to go this way.

  5. I heard some chatter that C-P and DJ might be merging. Hmmm...maybe the email regarding the merging of the Help Desks in those areas is just one of those pieces.

    But could be unfounded

  6. Any news about the building problems? Have the hard-hitting reporters finally found some facts?

  8. What in the world is going on with the CN/HNT today?

First, we hear that two employees were let go at the HNT, and now we cannot help but notice that another has been fired from the advertising department at the CN. We are never told anything. We just see them walking out the door.
Creates a great feeling in all of us that we will be next!

On the quality side, Paul Grzella has played his weekly joke (we assume) by writing about the quality and accuracy of content in the paper. Holy Shit!! In today's CN, just two paragraphs below the "Tickle Me Elmo" picture of his smiling face, he writes:
"Mr. Weiss, we find your comments for useful and instructive." Go check it out on Page A-3 in the spot reserved for faulty journalistic attempts.

  9. an e-mail was sent out this afternoon from the VP of Circulation at the APP concerning a mandatory meeting for all full time and part time employees on Thursday.

  10. ah, 5:08pm:

that must be specific to departments, because the newsroom didn't get that email.

  11. There have been rumors about merging the courierpost and daily journal and keeping both mastheads going for years and years. Maybe if they come up with a South Jersey Today iteration it could serve both areas which are contiguous although DJ is far less sophisticated an area than that of the CP, no harm or insult meant to eather community.

  13. At HNT, 2 reps were put on suspension for an "indefinite" period of time. We understand that the department is undergoing "restructuring" to "compensate." At CN, a former ARS who was due to come back today from maternity leave was told late last week that her position had been "terminated." Another sales rep resigned today, effective at the end of the week.

  14. Between crapping on the floor and an alleged OSHA problem, Jersey ahsn't had anything interesting to say in weeks. Time to scrap their segment. Sorry, but it is true. You guys jumped the shark

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
