First look: Prototype No. 2, with your new slogan

Yours truly, in the second production prototype for Gannett Blog's '09 patron appreciation gift. Readers crowdsourced the new slogan on the T-shirt: "A half-assed company deserves a kick-ass blog."

The shirt is my thanks for your special support of a new sponsorship I'm developing to keep this blog in business. The 100% cotton, premium-quality shirt and cap were art-directed by MilĂ© Boban of My Trick Pony in San Francisco. My preliminary plan:

The Thurston J. Howell Society
When good enough isn't good enough! T-shirt and cap, with signed-by-Jim postcard of authenticity. $100.

But wait, there's more! For Howell Society members, I'm considering offering exclusive access to a new password-protected-only blog that I'm planning to edit. More on that later.

Your feedback's valuable! Please post replies in the comments section, below. Or e-mail gannettblog[at]gmail[dot-com]; Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the green sidebar, upper right.

  4. you would sell more and make more money if you focused the message more on the company and less on the blog.. but simply stated the blog's address elsewhere on the shirt and hat.. bad example, but you get the picture: i worked 20 years of overtime at gannett without getting paid, lost half by 401k worth with its stock and am now laid off.. and all i got was this t-shirt. gannnett blog.com

  8. JIM---I've really got to give you alot of credit here.

A couple days ago you floated an idea for the shirt (sorry, just cant remember what it was right now). It wasn't a bad idea, but thru the "crowdsourcing" an even better slogan came about.

I can't tell you how many meetings at G I have sat in that when an idea was floated, obviously better ones were presented. But we stuck with the original idea (maybe even way sub-par) because it was someone's (as in someone 'special') idea and no way was it going to be changed.

Thanks for being able to listen!

  9. I've been crowdsourcing since the days before personal computers (yikes!). Long ago, I learned that readers collectively always have better ideas. The customer is often right!

  11. Jim,

I've been sending my quarterly allowance... How much to purchase outright? I'd love to send a cap or t-shirt to a few VPs at my site.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
