USAT | From coast to coast, the latest cat news

USA Today is using more video from Gannett's 23 TV stations to stand out in a crowded news market. But as this occasional Gannett Blog series shows, some of the videos aren't quite ready for primetime.

That, apparently, is why GCI's leading daily is now featuring on its homepage (!) this cat rescue video -- inconclusive ending and all -- originally produced by WZZM of Grand Rapids, Mich.

  1. It's about cheap content and page views. Why do you all think GCI is about journalism? Do you just refuse to see both the present - and the future? Good Lord...

  6. Eventually, all or most of USAT's content will come from elsewhere. Wake up people in Tysons. USAT is going to be produced with a skeleton staff in the not-so-distant future. There is no real evidence that USAT leaders want to return to trying to be a legitimate news brand. Just look at their actions in the last five years. Tells you all you need to know. Hopefully they won't lay off everyone, but rather give folks an opportunity to work at one of the other Gannett rags -- at least stay employed. Those transfer options were never considered in previous rounds of layoffs, so we will see if USAT has developed any morales or a heart since previous rounds of cutbacks.

    1. So NYT lays off people, WP offers buyouts, LAT is a shell of what it once was but you folks think USAT is somehow the only news outlet that has reduced staff? Get your heads out of the sand you over paid whinners.

  7. So will this mean even more editorial management promotions to oversee the pygmy size staff of the future?

  10. This is good news. It now means my video featuring my daughter's Christmas play has a chance!
