Corporate names new human resources chief

In replacing retiring Roxanne Horning, Gannett today once more turns to Chief Marketing Officer Maryam Banikarim's last employer.

  9. Gee, I'da thought Steve "HR Is My Craft" Hyatt would have been thrown in there. He certainly has proven his distant aloofness and blantant disregard for those who served the company with decades of their lives -- skills that are now the hallmark of leadership at Gannett.

    I'd love to see Regan or Hyatt find jobs that pay half what they earn in any other company in the world.

  11. 10:27 I feel your pain. Can you imagine the nerve of someone actually expecting you to come to the office once in awhile? Who wouldn't appreciate the job you did fans wearing your cell phone from the Club!

  14. Yeah!!for the new guy.
    At least Gannett did not promote anyone from the existing 20 year left overs. Our HR team needs a significant knowledge uplift. Many have been in jobs for 15 years or more and have done nothing to expand or improve their HR skills or knowledge...just show up everday and that's that. HR is not taken seriously in the field, the publishers dislike the current HR structure, we waste a lot of time on worthless conference calls, and are expected to devote a significant amount of our time to recruiting when we have a talent acquisition team (some pretty worthless-but they are employed just the same). Again, yeah for the new guy, fresh approach. Hopefully we will have some much needed changes in people close to the top, regional, etc and get some great people.
