USCP hires national advertising sales director

From a statement issued earlier today:

Gannett announced Rose Mills has been named senior vice president/national sales for U.S. Community Publishing. Mills previously served as senior director of sales for the West Region of PopSugar Media, a brand of media company Sugar Inc.

She will report to Mary Murcko, Gannett’s president of sales, and will be based in Chicago.

  1. Allure, Glamour, Victoria, Cosmo, and now USCP? Something doesn't add up here.

But we haven't hired a new SVP in about 3 days, so I guess it's ok.

  2. Why base her in Chicago, other than the fact that she already works there?

  3. Duh, Jim. National advertising + Chicago = Chicago

Besides Mary is in NYC These cities have most access to agencies who rep for national retailers.

  4. Banikarim and Murcko better hurry up and drive some revenue. Kramer wants to hire big talent and there is no money. Unless he fires about 35 VPs that do nothing.

  5. I reckon they never heard of the Internet.

  6. And now its Larry Kramer's turn.

  7. We need to hire someone to decide all of the sales programs that get rolled out to the clones.

  8. And again, I ask...what does Michelle Krans do? And Leslie Gialiambardo?

  9. Yes, good. Another Vice President. And layoffs and furloughs continue. Does anyone not yet get what Gannett is about? What's important to them? What they place value in?

Leslie and Michelle are focused on non-national advertising strategies and sales performance at the local level. Same with the sales excellence teams at corporate.

  11. Chicago, LA, New York really doesn't matter. But, I ask again: Cosmo, Allure, Victoria, Glamour and now USCP? Parking spot.

  12. The only consistency there is the Female target. She must have a rolodex of consumer packaged goods or retailers we want for national newspaper ads.

    Still very weird choice.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
