Bad news, now all within reach of media industry

The widely read Gawker media and gossip blog in New York is illustrating its report on today's layoffs with a screenshot of Corporate's homepage, which got redesigned to feature smiling employees (?) for the new branding campaign launched in March.

  1. Let's just hope that none of the employees featured on the Gannett website were laid off. Sarcasm.

  2. Official end of the branding campaign...Robin greased for early exit....Maryam wins....

  3. I don't think anyone is "winning" in this scenario any more than Charlie Sheen did. LOSING!

  5. Big loser today was Robin. Note she didn't make this announcement from Dickey, and didn't even try to turn into a GCI press release with a positive spin. She probably didn't even know about it. She's out of the stream, isolated, alone and about to be cast off like some old Alaskan on an ice floe.

  6. These big layoffs have always been disclosed by Dickey in a memo.

Plus, as far as I know, Corporate communications has never issued a press release on any previous layoffs. Rather, it has confirmed them only when approached by outside reporters. That was true under Robin Pence's predecessor, Tara Connell.

  7. Here's a Robin confirmation I found. She says it isn't division-wide, which I guess means not all community papers:

  8. The story is showing up on DrudgeReport now, so it won't be just media types that read it.

It will be read by the regular people in the communities raped...I mean served by Gannett.

  9. The news showed-up this morning in MediaPost, which is read by advertising agencies and clients. Nice juxtapositiong: hundreds and hundreds of layoffs while Craig Dumbo and Gracia Moreandmoretore rake in millions on those employee's backs.

  10. 11:56: It doesn't look good. EVERYBODY is talking about this and they're not even in the newspaper industry. How out of touch is GANNETT anyway?

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
