Phoenix station threatened over immigration 'casts

KPNX-TV News Director Mark Casey says the tone of the reaction had become "uncomfortable and off-putting," and that striking a balance in covering the issue "has been quite difficult because of the intensity of this debate,'' Heat City says in a post today.

"In your letters and e-mails," he says in a letter posted Friday on the NBC affiliate's website, "many of you have judged us to be unpatriotic or ‘part of the ‘Open Borders’ crowd.' Others have said we haven’t been ‘tough enough’ in challenging the state and national political leadership who support the new law. Still more of you have judged us to be ’shallow’ and to have ‘oversimplified’ a complicated issue."

  1. This is a just a joke. Mark Casey thinks he's Mr. Big Pants and has to release a statement showing how self important KPNX News is. The truth of the matter is the station's coverage has been completely biased with this issue in the past and clearly the viewership has spoken. KPNX's target demo is Scottsdale families and mothers specifically. That demo supports SB 1070 and now Mr. Casey and Co. have to back pedal on their coverage in hopes of retaining viewership and not alienating the rest of their dwindling audience. People who support the cause against 1070 watch Univision, so KPNX cannot afford to support those people, especially in this economy.
