Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

From one end of the country to the other, Jim has made us friends. We have shared our ongoing sorrows and disappointments with the company we once loved. We have watched our newspapers turn into embarrassing skeletons of what they once were. It has been consoling that the carnage has not been limited to one area and that we have not been "singled out" for bad treatment.
ReplyDeleteThere have been tears and frustrations and feelings of depression and panic-- all the rewards for being conscientious, faithful and dedicated to jobs we loved.
To the younger people, still employed: Be on the constant lookout for a chance to lave on your own terms.
To the older "discarded" people: As you suffer the results of the demise of all you ever knew, try not to forget that the McLean, Virginia pariahs will someday and somehow have no choice but to reap the "rewards" of their inhumanity.
Jim, I hope you reconsider, if at least for a little while longer. Gannett's time does appear to be short and it would be fitting that you report on it's end. I have no love for Gannett and what the corporate ownership of newspapers have done to the "biz." Has it been nothing more than a legalized ponzi scheme after all? I wonder.

ReplyDeleteOh, joy: The return of T---'s Trolls. But the delete key is back, too!
ReplyDeleteAs part of your final farewell Jim, how about giving us YOUR very personal perspective on the demise of GCI - when, oh when, will the Titanic finally sink???
