Batter up! Des Moines Register sex issue's got juice
Outgoing Indianapolis Star Publisher Babs Henry isn't the only one pitching kinky sex in Gannettland. "Check out the Des Moines Register's alternative weekly, Juice,'' a reader says. "This week's Sex Issue includes the usual extremely explicit Q&A about sex, but also the 'sex diaries' of some anonymous local women and a photo gallery of the cover-photo models in various positions and states of undress. And all of this is promoted, of course, on the Des Moines Register's home page -- not just on the Juice site." Plus: there's a sex survey!
I wonder what the Cowles family is thinking?
Earlier: Rochester's Kane named new Indy Star publisher. Plus: Ooh, la, lah! Rochester 'threesome' a surprise hit

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

Velocity weekly in Louisville did the same issue earlier this year. In fact, a large share of the site's page views come from photo galleries of scantily clad women in local night clubs.
ReplyDeleteYes, YES, YES...This is all the brain child of MILF Hollingsworth!!!
ReplyDeleteShe is hot!!!
hollingsworth is a piece of work!!! THis is all her baby. Typical!
ReplyDeleteMILF Hollingsworth!!!
ReplyDeleteWe all love our Little Laura H here in Des Moines.
Please translate for the clueless among you ... MILF?
ReplyDeleteMissing in Left Field?
What?
The Sex Issue in Juice has been around for a while now -- certainly before Hollingsworth became publisher.
ReplyDeleteThe dirty little secret of Gannett newspaper web site (one of the dirty little secrets anyway) is that a large slice of the daily page views are for photo galleries of nonsense of all sorts, including scantily clad women and drunken frat boys at local nightclubs.
ReplyDeleteThat and sports drive traffic. News is of less importance.
She IS a MILF. She is bringing it back in her own style.
ReplyDeleteGoogle "MILF" and it will define it for you!
ReplyDeleteGoogled ...
ReplyDeleteECK!
Double ECK!
too crude and lewd ... shame on you!
Rochester's young-person-oriented insider magazine had a MILF cover story for Mother's Day. A definition of MILF was not included, but readers got the idea.
ReplyDeleteI personally like the dude better! Good idea, our site needs to do an issue like this!!!
ReplyDelete@1:26 p.m.: Ditto!
ReplyDeleteDouble Ditto
ReplyDeleteIn this particular context, I believe MILF more accurate translates to "Manager I'd Like to Fire."
ReplyDeleteAh yes, so now we see what constitutes "innovation" within Gannett (so amply praised in other parts of this blog) -- forget the watchdog function, forget the Pulitzer -- take everything down market, become a cheap imitation of Penthouse Forum!
ReplyDeleteLighten up people. You KNOW you all read the sex issues in your markets, let's be honest. I found several of the stories to be interesting and a couple to be downright hilarious. Don't be such old foggies. (sp) Peace out.
ReplyDeleteLast week Rochester Insider had a bikini edition.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if Gannett uses MILFs or bikinis to sell papers, it's not a new or shocking strategy. But the D&C's editorial pages are constantly inveighing against the "coarsening of our culture". Don't lecture me if that's how you're making your paycheck.
