Neuharth assures us we'll get more crap than ever

Like rubbernecking past a car wreck, I can't resist octogenarian retired CEO Al Neuharth's weekly column, every Friday in USA Today.

Gracious! Is Neuharth huffing suntan lotion now? The man who's done more than just about anyone to screw up journalism (just look at what his own son told USA Today) opines this morning: Pay no attention to those silly stories about falling circulation at newspapers. "Sure, the slumping economy has made times a little tough for them,'' he writes breezily, from his tree-mounted breezeway in the Florida sky. "But most still have profit margins well above most other businesses." (And thank you, Big Al, for setting the bar so high on those margins!)

"So," he says, "if you're a news junkie, you'll probably continue to get everything you've been getting from your newspaper. And more."

And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
