My tipster sheds more light on a pending newsroom reorganization at Gannett's flagship -- and reasons why layoffs or buyouts may be announced soon.
"Unlike many of Gannett's community papers," the tipster writes, "USAT's newsroom is filled with people ages 50+ who have been with the company for two decades or more. There are still plenty of 'founders' from 1982 around. I am sure many of those people earn $100K a year or more, and it doesn't take a Gannett bean counter to figure out that getting rid of some of those people would bring substantial savings, especially when you can hire recent college grads for 60% of that salary."
Well, CEO Craig Dubow did put everyone on notice, after all.
USA Today employees: Are $100,000-plus newsroom salaries unusual -- or the norm? Please E-mail Gannett Blog, or leave a note in the comments section, below.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
