Hot Off the Press: The Indianapolis Star

This is today's Indianapolis Star; click on the image for a bigger view. The Star, one of Gannett's biggest newspapers, is led by Barbara Henry, an uber-publisher who has other publishers reporting to her. Henry is a member of the Newspaper Operating Committee, making her one of the company's most powerful female executives. I wonder whether she was a candidate for CEO when the board ultimately chose Craig Dubow in 2005. Anyone know?

The Star may be among the first Gannett newspapers to shift to an even narrower measure of newsprint, presumably shrinking the amount of news offered to readers. The paper made headlines this month when it dismissed an editorial writer for racially offensive comments he posted in one of the Star's online forums. Former opinion page writer Ruth Holladay writes often about the paper on her blog.

Indianapolis employees: Any more details about this case? Please E-mail Gannett Blog, or leave a note in the comments section, below.

Sometimes they just shrink the image if the width difference is not that great. Yes, I have gone through this, from 52 to 50-inch web.

  3. So, then, that means no loss of newshole?

  4. And on Barbara Henry not being a candidate for CEO, can anyone else confirm?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
