Via snail mail, readers recently gave me two gifts: $20 and $60. That latter contribution was $5 per month for a year, according to the reader, who attached an encouraging Post-it note.
With advertising sales so far this quarter, I've now taken in $609:

Why are your advertising dollars so far down from last year? Do you get paid for clicks or page views. I've noticed the last few quarters have been sharply down compared to last year.
ReplyDeleteI think Jim has explained this before, if I remember correctly. Advertising is paid by page views, and when site traffic is down, page views are down. Page views go down when there's less bad news about Gannett and the news biz. Since there have been no furloughs this year, and far fewer layoffs, site traffic declines.
ReplyDeleteAlso because the whole thing was a mirage from the start. Most people have figured out there is little use coming here often.
DeleteCongrats on the note, Jim.
12:35 is correct.
DeleteSo fewer people are unhappy and aren't coming here? Wow so when folks are happier Jim makes less money? That doesn't seem fair!
DeleteMore like, when people hear rumors or get partial information about changes at work, they seek out more information wherever they can. For better or worse, Gannettblog is a corporate grapevine.
ReplyDeleteIt's amusing, addictive entertainment, along the lines of watching Jerry Springer.
Delete4:46, I guess as long as the information is not specified as "true" or "accurate" or "sensible" or "free from the bias of ax-grinders," then your post would be correct.
ReplyDeleteLikewise the national media, 10:35. Jack Kelley? Jayson Blair? CNN's Jodi Arias fetish?
ReplyDeleteIf you believe that a single source for anything is enough information, you deserve your knowledge, such that it is.
If your mom says she loves you, check it out.
You're actually arguing my point. 4:46 is claiming there is information here. I specified the parameters.
DeleteYou then attempted the usual Gannett Blog tactic of presenting something nearly unrelated in order to set up a straw man, which you then knocked down. Congrats on making yourself feel better.
