  1. Today's USAT:

Yet one more edition of nothing original and fresh, everything already on Web --

No profit in this game, Ms. Gracia.

  2. From NPR TOTN: Clark Kent, don't quit your day job (and avoid unemployed trolls who post from someone's basement) -

" .. The Onion ran a news story that headlined economically healthy Daily Planet now most unrealistic part of Superman universe .."

  3. For the third straight day, the Arizona Republic has not updated the sports section for its print edition.

    Where's the quality control?

  4. The Republic also still has not corrected the misspelling of Steven Spielberg's name by Republic/Gannett film critic Bill Goodykoonz.

Again, where is the quality control?

  6. Must be pot/kettle day:

8:11 misspells someone's name in a post ripping a paper for misspelling someone's name.

9:08 criticizes anyone else for being incompetent.

  9. I'd have thought everyone understood the rule I first heard in the days of Usenet.

DON'T REPLY TO SPAM AND DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.

I can't understand why people continue responding to them. They're here to try to get a rise out of others and to divert and disrupt the discussions. Ignore them. Anything else rewards their scuzzy behavior.

  15. November 18, 2010 - Curtis Riddle leaves and is replaced by Stoney La Douche in Wilmo.

    Steffen quits.
    Franceschini quits.
    Roselle quits.
    Pinto quits.
    Braun quits.
    Rosario quits.
    Newton quits.
    Sullivan quits.
    Mika quits.
and on Monday, in just 2 years as Advertising VP working for La Douche, Eric Mayberry quits.

Leaving Stoney LaDouche to figure out just what went wrong in Wilmo.

Is it everybody else Stoney or is it you?

  20. 5:46- It's obvious in Wilmington that it's Mr. Griffin. The site has been completely trashed. But it doesn't matter. Kane can't remove him. Dickey made his choice long ago, and we're stuck with him.

  21. Geez Jim you take the day off? These posts are totally gross

    ReplyDelete
  22. Large influx of removed posts=large amount of bad news coming from corporate soon.

  23. December is coming quickly.
That is typiclly the month when layoffs happen.
With revenue on the dive, and certainly no indication of an upward trend, why would this December bring anything but bad news and layoffs.

  24. @546 It's a shame, for sure. But the newsroom Curtis built is still kicking ass, in spite of GCI's strange and exasperating strategies....

  25. 8:17, clueless.

8:56, stale and clueless. Same "sky is falling" posts every day.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yikes, the "denial" poster is back. It's coming, folks.

  27. Is it true that Griffin did lose his responsibilities for other sites? Is he just hard to work with? Too demanding? Or what cause all those people to leave?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 10:50, stale and clueless. Same baseless response every time.

  29. @ 11:05 - LaDouche was (and a bad one at that) a national ad sales rep. Do you know what national ad sales reps do? Nothing. They take (don't sell) ads. After years of drinking martinis with the big box stores and taking their money he and Dickey Boy were living the MAD MEN life in the salad days of Gannett's Hawaiian adventure.

When LaDouche came back to the states, he failed out West, he failed at JRC, then bankrupted the Philadelphia Inquirer, was demoted twice, then fired because he couldn't take a hint.

Dickey came to his rescue and gave him Wilmo. Those with sense ran.

  30. I remember when Dickey went to corporate and 5 huge Gannett publishers left the company immediately. Wish I knew what they knew at the time, I would have jumped then too!

  31. If the operating committee doesn't grow some balls and stand up to this clueless, micromanaging hack Wilmington's numbers will continue to fall and layoffs and furloughs will continue. Someone has to literally take the bull by the horns and turn this once extremely profitable gannett site into what it was before Griffin got there. Everyone has left because he doesn't let OC members do their jobs. He has to have his finger in matters he has no idea how to control. Let your OC members do their jobs and try as you might — do yours. We are tired of being dead last! If we have to we will over throw you like the countries in the middle east. We want our paper and our numbers back! Gracia, get rid of Howard Griffin! He is destroying our paper!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
