  1. The pressman in Lafayette are a good reson why unions are needed. It is un-safe work conditions first of all, but Gannett does not care about that. It's all about putting out more papers with less help. Sounds tto me a lawsuit is in the waiting. To blame..The press manager,The production manager and the VP of printing for that region. Contact your lawyers and get your facts in order prior to something happening and document everything, You will own the company. My understanding is Lafayette is one of the best print sites in all of GPS. Why would they not hire some press operators and continue to be one of the best. Poor manager is my guess, no ball to go to corp and ask for help. It is a sign of weakness and just plain afraid of his bosses at the next level. Good luck guys, you will need it, or lawsuits will follow

    8:44 poster is right on
Even though they print outstanding products, the crews morale is at a all time low. Not one guy gives a shit, due to the fact that no one has been given a raise in years, under staffed, The supervisors are underpaid by at least $5 a an hour compared to Indy. It is a joke the manning they have, 2 guys per shift..un safe, un healthy. If Bolger does not step in and right the ship, the ship will sink as fast as the Titanic. Bill, help us out, Dave Laguirer the press manger could give 2 hoots about his men, and he is fooling his boss, Mr. mattews who report to Bill Bolger, the Press manager has to go.. It's time for a big change, we are sinking fast. You have pressman making top dollar and they cant even run the press, they should be paid half what the press guys who can run the press. This is bad for moral and it needs to be changed. The supervisors who do all the work are underpaid and are feed up withe the favoritism that goes on, Again, Im asking Bolger to have a meeting with the supervisors and find out just what exactly is going on. My rant is over, hope to hear from you Bill bolger. I am sure you know how to contact me

  3. Lafayette, In sounds alot like our print site. Our Press manager has no nuts to stand up to his Corp. boss and ask for help from corp boss. That is what we call a chicken sh-t boss. It will all come back and bite them, soon they will be found out and riffed, with a little help from their friends:) Things are turning around, but the crews a working short handed and production is starting to suffer. Word to the wise, fix it soon or else the shit will hit the fan

  4. The posts about issues in printing -- due to Jim's work here, those issues go right to the front of the line. This blog documents potential issue.

Corporate risk management probably reads GB, every day, to see if there is something that has to be checked, NOW.

There are stories about Big Al and the printers.

Sometimes there are authentic issues, and sometimes there is just ego.

  5. Actually read all of Wolff's gibberish this week. His reference about Fox nada on Latinos -- my God, has he seen this?

    http://latino.foxnews.com/index.html

IMO -- this is a gross error of fact. He needs to provide his spin on this.

And Rup is anti-Fox? If I were his editor, I'd want to see his notes on that. Who else has reported this?

    This is not good.

  6. The embarrassing cincinnati.com cutline - mentioned on this blog yesterday - still hasn't been fixed.

But the Enquirer did run a correction today about f'ing up the vote counts on election day. That only took 2 weeks.

What a consistently lazy, incompetent, foul product.

  7. Dear a55-kissing Gannettoids and your yoot-ful dupes -- here's why you are failing --

" .. In a world that seems increasingly dominated by politicians, pundits, community organizers, professors, lawyers, marketing managers and others who mostly specialize in the production of words, there is often little understanding of what it takes to produce an essential product or service that we frequently take for granted .."

Big Al's mom was a widow who had her own laundry business. Not a CPA, with four board seats and a Filofax of meeting dates. Someone directly attached to the harsh reality of life.

  8. Today, why not thank Jim for his work with a donation?

And hope these folks have, too. Jim's saving them a lot of time and $$$$$.

    Where's the quality control?

  11. Good try, 8:02, but those analysts are not sitting at their desks waiting for some anonymous pressman to post daily gibberish about his workload or his pantsload.

The welfare checks must have been bigger this month. This is the second straight day of people crying for Jim to get donations.

  17. Just watched USA NOW about "Israeli bus bombing, Flight cancellations, Latest movies." Good grief, how amateurish can you get? It looks like a reject tape by a high schooler. The "talent" grinned through the segment about the bombing and then -- I kid you -- said, without so much as breath: "On a more festive note ..." Are there any grownups left there?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 11:04, the post has nothing to do with Jim wanting donations, were is your head at?

  20. 2:31 Making matters worse, that "festive note" segues into a segment about Obama pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 11:04, you think those analysts don't read GB about the CFO, you have proven how Gannettoidism and its dupes are stupidity, writ large.

Stupidest post in GB this month. Shows how stupidity cannot be cured, only terminated for cause.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not sure what the problem is with spelling a word found in the dictionary: "Ass." Some poster keeps spelling it using numerals -- yes, numerals! -- instead of letters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow, 2:54, that's brilliant, stating the obvious.

Now, explain how under-funded the GCI pension fund is -- 65% or 70%. After wipe off the drool, off your Gannettoid desk.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Things are the same at our print site also. No help, always shorthanded and terrible morale! No raises in 3 years and furloughs that seem to already be included in Gannetts budget. Always an excuse, but the top brass, always seem to get their stock options, or pay increases. Sounds a lot like what hostess management was doing and we see where that's gonna end up. Time for management to wake up, and please, enough of these yes men and actually hire someone who cares about people.

  26. The Gannett atmosphere feels like late 2008 early 2009.The only difference is the stock price was 8.50 then.
Get ready for the hammer to drop.

  27. Jim, ban Gannettoid like you banned lemming and schoolmarm.

It's stupid and I no longer know if it's supposed to be positive or negative to be called one, because the guy who uses it most failed his 'effective use of sarcasm' class in middle school.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jim, 4:22's obvious lack of understanding about "Gannettoid" proves (1) the non-news types posting here, (2) an obvious lack of knowledge of GCI, and (3) too much whine. Pity.

  29. Hey, 4:22 -- when is your check for Jim going to arrive?

    How much?

  30. phoenix hang on to your contract staffing clause or else they will run the phx presses with 2 or 3 people like they are doing everywhere else !!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll tell you one thing... If Gannett has plans to run PHX presses with 2 or 3 people, the job ain't gettin' done. These last generation Goss presses are behemoths, difficult to get around on and plain slow to turn around to a different product. Gannett, unfortunately, has a built in "Small shop" mentality when it comes to pressrooms. I know... I came from one of their small shops. (ie; "Sweat Shop.") However, I have no doubts that Gannett will drive that square peg relentlessly into the too small round hole at the Arizona Republic. Gannett has the money, power, arrogance and stupidy indicative of today's corporations.

You can sign me: "A Disgusted Phoenix Pressman"

    ReplyDelete
  32. 9:25 anyone ringing your phone off the hook to come work for their company? Where does a "disgusted pressman" take his 1980's skills when he leaves this terrible company? Hostess perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  33. phx doesn't care about the print product, they'd be happy to have it go away so they can save more money and live off of on-line and TV. pressmen are just a money hole to them. just like they have cut the maintenence money to keep the presses running like they should.

    ReplyDelete
  34. phx needs to save money to pay for Carpenter to live in phx and travel back and forth to corporate every week.

  35. 2:31, there are children minding the store in key positions both internally and externally as the face of usa today. It is beyond pathetic and getting worse. No standards, no experience, no context and no experience necessary. Editors would rather have it this way. Unfortunately, this is not an environment where the whiz kids can actually learn the craft of journalism. Not that it matters to Kramer & Co., and the newly installed management team isnt questioning any of this.

    A sure recipe for disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Disgusted Phoenix Pressman here...

No illusions... absolutly none. We're in a dying trade, made possible by corporations like Gannett that suck the lifeblood out of companies. How much is enough? When does Gannett stop the cutting? Unfortunately, it's what they do best... even in the good times as witnessed by me when their stock was at $90 a share. Maybe it's the contempt Gannett displays toward working people that disturbs me most. I see press crews getting smaller and smaller while VP ranks swell. I view Gannett as an inverted pyramid... as the "tip" (at the bottom) representing workers, gets smaller, and upper management bloats, well, you can draw your own conclusions as to what will happen.

  37. Print and smart writing is actually selling and growing. I get beautiful glossy magazines for free via mail. I guess the adverts cover the cost. Lots of pictures and fluff articles. I skim through it and it is a decent value for me; I don't pay anything for it. The local paper on the other hand has about the same quality, it should be free too.

Free papers for the win Gannett.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Another thought... maybe you could sell and deliver newspapers from other markets. There are two papers that I can't get delivered here; I want the physical paper, but they don't have delivery here. Fortunately, they are free on line, but I would prefer the actual paper and I am willing to pay for it.

  39. 2:33, the post in question started with: "why not thank Jim for his work with a donation?" If that has nothing to do with giving Jim money, then you have some unusual logic brewing.

2:52, you underestimate the stupidity of your own post. If you truly think that credible stock analysts use what is posted here to drive their recommendations, then you are the one getting duped. If anything, the buy recommendations should skyrocket just by the clear evidence that Gannett has cleared out many disgruntled and useless people in the last few years. You are likely among them.

This place is more of a head-shaker than ever. Some people need a dose of reality and comprehension.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1:05, you don't want to donate to Jim and GB, you're a whining Gannettoid free-loader, IMO. Like the Wall Street gang that hovers here.

And the ridiculous Gannettoid statement that Wall Street doesn't read GB is flat-out wrong and ignorant. "Information is power" -- Gordon Gekko. Duh.

Why is USAT so Gannettoid-dull? Mr. 1:05 has provided the answer.

Short GCI -- too many Gannettoids, in a pissy economy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 11:08, you think, GCI doesn't consider that, every week?

    Think. Really. Thanks.

  42. Another sales re org in Indy. Twice in two years. More confusion for the advertisers. No wonder they are dropping like flies.

  43. The Press guy from Arizona hit it on the head, on 2 points. 1- 2 or 3 guys running that press in Phoenix is not gonna happen, you will never get a paper out the door. Were I work , my sweat shop has 2, some times 3 per shift and its non stop, quality and upkeep of press is lacking, and the guys don't give a shit anymore. We used to take pride in our craft, not anymore, no incentive for slave labor and our manger just sits in his office all day eating and playing on his computer
2- How many new Vice presidents has GPS named in the last few months? What the hell do these guys do besides collecting q nice fat check. You nailed it Phoenix, your right on

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have a therory about all the VP's Publiasher and regional President. Gannett has thined out all the top position of the manager that wer not all in with Corp. So know to take care of their yes men,(company men0 They have created 100's of positions for these lucky few and gave them titles like VP of Production East and so on, thats why they created GPS, to create more senior level jobs for the company men. They will stay on until the company sinks and when it does they will be well off, because they are all making six figures plus stock options. It sound far fetched, but I know what the deal is, I have first hand information. I will provide more detail in the future.. The company is jut sucking every penny they can get and one day PUFF were done. Bet on it

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Phoenix pressman is right - Gannett brass always think what works for the small papers will work for the big ones. It's not just in the pressroom but in the newsroom and advertising as well. No wonder it runs the big papers so badly. They are a different animal.

  46. Arizona Sen. John McCain has been battering Susan Rice for more than a week about her testimony on Benghazi and saying she was unfit to be secretary of state.

The Arizona Republic also ran a tough editorial on Benghazi.

Yesterday, McCain reversed course and acknowledged that there is no evidence that Rice was responsible for editing the CIA talking points. "End of scandal," as Andrew Sullivan wrote yesterday afternoon.

So what does the Republic have in today's paper about McCain's reversal?

    Zip. Zilch. Nada.

  48. 5:34, I don't donate to Jim for many reasons. The main one is I don't want to waste my money. Another is Jim has let this place decline. Your post is prime evidence of that.

If you want to light your money on fire, go ahead. But the people who have spent the last few days telling us to donate to Jim can walk in front of a bus. He gets nothing and likes it.

  49. 5:07, you're a freeloader, like most.

You don't like it here -- go start your own blog. I don't think anyone with a brain will waste their time, reading a freeloading pisser's 11-word whines.

We don't deserve you. Buh-bye. Hoping that you never come back. Just stay in the bar with the Gannettoid alkies' club, you deserve each other.

  50. I'd admit to being a freeloader. But there's nothing to freeload here. What is there of value? Your posts? I say no.

Also, the Gannettoid tag has run its course. It wasn't that clever to start with.
