Gannett had threatened to pull its broadcasting from 19 cities including Atlanta and Denver if the TV satellite provider didn't block the commercial-skipping feature on its digital video recorders. Dish Network's alternative had been to pay massive penalties to GCI.
[Updated at 3:20 p.m. ET.] The Associated Press also reports: "Dish had claimed Gannett was asking for a 300% increase in fees for the right to carry 22 Gannett stations affiliated with NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox. Gannett has said it was seeking a fair deal in line with market rates.
In its own statement, Dish said only that the two sides had reached a long-term agreement. Publicly traded Dish is based south of Denver.
Neither statement revealed terms of the deal. Shares of both companies (GCI and DISH) were only fractionally lower on the news.
The two companies had faced a midnight deadline yesterday to reach an agreement, and talks were continued early this morning.

Of course they reached an agreement. They always do. I've seen this with other cable/satellite providers.
