Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

The staff in Shreveport has no spine. They are similar to the coachless Saints. If there is no one there to hold their hands they are useless. Bailey this and Bailey that what a bunch of garbage.
ReplyDeleteI got the obnoxious crawl on KPNX-TV (Gannett's NBC affiliate in Phoenix) warning me that I was going to lose KPNX if Dish didn't settle with Gannett. But I don't use Dish -- I'm on Cox cable TV. So the obnoxious crawl is wasted on me. Can't Gannett do better than that. I saw the crawl during prime time shows, the Notre Dame football game and SNL. Is Gannett doing this elsewhere? How heavy-handed -- and how misdirected.
ReplyDeleteIt is official. Ron Burgundy has been stripped of all responsibilities except the Wilmington site. He is now soley responsible for the News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware.
ReplyDeleteThis latest demotion follows the same pattern of ineffective leadership and demotions as the mouth piece for the deceased lunatic Bob Jelnic at the Journal Register Company, and later in the same role for Brian Tierney at the Philadelphia Inquirer. Demotions followed by terminations.
Having driving the once proud East Group site of Wilmington to "dead stinking last," Dickey was forced to remove Salisbury, Staunton, Burlington and the Beach weeklies away from the Anchorman. Writing is certainly on the wall, and even those left roaming the nearly vacant building have been heard to say, "dead man walking." Will he leave of his own volition or will Michael G Kane complete the Publisher PIP and put Griffin on the street for good?
MGK is a strong publisher. He's apparently sending a message, "look for another job. Now. This is done in 12 months."
ReplyDelete1:01, I think your goose is cooked.
ReplyDeleteThe crawl isn't something unique to Gannett. I've seen several stations from different broadcast companies use it during retransmission negotiations.
ReplyDelete1:01 - Bailey hardly holds anyones hands. He is a hands-off kind of guy, if you know what I mean. There is no one leading this paper.
ReplyDeleteSusie Ellwood is tanned, rested and underworked.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm the NFL (aka Goodell) I'm sending a "cease and desist" letter to the NBC affiliates mucking up my product tonight.
ReplyDeleteOnce again KPNX (and I imagine other Gannett-owned NBC properties) feels the need to piss off viewers.
That "Hopper" feature is probably as big a deal as the increased retransmission fees. It's possible DISH could trade the "Hopper" feature for reduced retrans fees. None of the Big 4 nets likes "Hopper".
Gannett's problem is that it only has 19 local stations. It can't barter reduced fees in exchange for carrying other non-terrestrial channels in the manner that the networks do.
See if this looks familiar.

Anyone else notice the low profile Maryam has taken since the Blue ball fiasco, re-design, and ad campaign?
ReplyDelete1:01 Go away Bailey and learn some employee names, not too hard to do and not too much to ask for!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMaryam is just biding her time and preparing for her next speaking gig on transformative corporate culture.
ReplyDeletesusie ellwood is done.
ReplyDeleteEd Cassidy is NOT working for DealChicken or any place in Gannett. Maryam Banikarim will not allow it. Where do these stupid rumors come from? MAC, do you know?
