PointRoll | An exodus from GCI's ad subsidiary?

A Gannett Blog reader in a position to know tells me as many as 40 PointRoll employees have left so far this year -- a number that would be significant, given overall employment that may now already be as low as 250.

Historically, PointRoll -- which Gannett bought in 2005 -- has been a disproportionately big driver of the company's earnings.

Earlier: CEO's memorable memo: "rivals are eating your lunch . . . and snickering as they do it."

  1. I am one of the 40. Best decision I ever made. Philadelphia area too, if you don't like it there...leave. Don't listen to the false promises, the lies. Just get out, if you have talent someone will hire you.

  2. I now hear the correct number is closer to 45 departures, with more possible in the month ahead.

  3. Is it possible that Gannett could actually screw this up?

  5. Gannett could screw up a one car funeral.

  6. Is this voluntary separations?

If so, nearly twenty percent of PointRoll’s workforce deciding to get out in just the past six months speaks volumes…none of which is good for that entity or Gannett.

  7. PointRoll is a sinking ship. Rob Gatto and Sarah Ripmaster have failed miserably in every way. Gracia, are you reading this? Rob now tells us the PointRoll employees we should look for lawyers to be in the NYC office, WTF is going on.
Ford has put their ad serving biz in review and with our top talent walking out the door every week the writing is on the wall. This once great company is a sinking ship. Ripmaster has been hiding in a log cabin in South Carolina for the past month on her 10th vacation in 2012.

  8. Felix Gomez, Jess Hondelero, Rachel Darrow, Julie Murphy, Colin DiBiase all resigned this past week. WHO is next?

  10. Apparently Julie Murphy is joining eBay! Looks like Saridakis poached her away to have her join one of his companies there. She is the head of sales enablement.

Pointroll's loss! Julie is a very dedicated worker. I wonder what Tria is going to do without her!!!

  13. Tria and Rip and screwed without Julie! She did all the work!

  14. Saradakis is brilliant! Murphy is the best employee here at Pointroll. So many people Rollers have interviewed at ebay with Saridakis's team and it is impossible to get a job there. Congratulations Julie! Put a good word in for me there!!!!

  15. Looks like Ellenthal is also stealing some of the 45 employees that have quit Pointroll this week. Some top AE's and SE's are going to join Mediamind.
I wonder how Rob and Sarah feel about everyone abandoning ship?

Seriously, this company is totally gone and Sarah Ripmaster is Rob Gatto have both checked out.

  17. I interviewed at EBay recently for a position in their marketing services division and after 8 interviews I was rejected. I cannot believe how tough it is to get a job there.

I also know that Saridakis was not a sponsor for me as he is known to be very negative on Pointroll employees and often does not act as a reference.

I know Julie will do a great job there...Congratulations Julie.

  18. I heard that Rob Gatto and Sarah Ripmaster hit the roof when Julie sent her note out to the team yesterday.

Clearly Rob and Sarah need to get their act together as they are so out of touch with the reality of this business.

Furthermore, with all the investigations that Gannett has going on within Pointroll, I am sure there are a lot of nervous executives in Pointroll that are worried about their own jobs.

It seems like Gannett needs to come and visit our office more frequently and see how dysfunctional this place is.

  19. Saridakis is a ball buster. I love it. He said to me that "Pointroll is a circus being led by a bunch of carnival clowns".

I know Chris very well and I am still amazed how connected he is in the industry and how many different companies he is an investor in. Furthermore, his client relationships are still the strongest.

I left Pointroll just over a year ago, and am still connected to many of the people there and still work with their remaining clients, but I am worried that this company has serious problems operationally and from a leadership perspective. The last thing they would want is someone like Chris working against them. As much as people at Pointroll and Gannett do not want to believe it, he can create some serious problems for you all.

  20. Did Julie work at Pointroll? I never saw her.

  21. Julie was in the office EVERY DAY. And when she wasn't she was traveling to other offices. She did ALL the work for Ripmaster.

  22. If she did all of the work for Ripmaster and was so good why are people bashing ripmasters work?

  26. Can anyone share Julie's note, or the gist of it? I hope she had the balls I didn't have when I left.

  27. Imagine leaving a job before you were due a bonus? Must be pretty bad at pointroll to leave that kind of bank. You think Sarah or Robb take ownership for the massive turnover? I doubt it, they just throw people under the bus. Gannett doesn't hold them accountable nor do they hold themselves accountable.

  28. Sarah is pissed because she couldn't blast murphy behind her back before she left. Well played putting out your two week notice to everyone, awesome.

    Subject: Sales Ops Update

Hi, everyone – I want to get ahead of the curve and let you all know that I have resigned from PointRoll. My last day with PointRoll is July 10th and between now and then I am working very closely with the Sales Operations teams and Tria to ensure a smooth transition.

PointRoll has been very good to me, and between my tenure here and with Gannett Digital, I have shared close to five and a half years of my life with many of you, but I’m ready for a new challenge. A great opportunity has presented itself with me at eBay/GSI Commerce where I will be leading a Sales Enablement team within their Global Marketing Services division. I am sad to leave so many good friends but I hope it’s only a “see you soon”, not a “good-bye”.

I will see and talk to many of you over the next two weeks and look forward to making sure that the team continues to be a well-oiled machine.

    Thanks!
    Julie

  30. This is fantastic Sarah is probably more irate that Murphy got a job at gsi and she can't even get her foot in the door there.

Chris wouldn't give her the time of day and she knows it. Gsi is too perceptive and know that Ripmaster doesn't have the intellect nor the work ethic to survive there.

  33. 11:13a. Why wouldn't she get a bonus? Didn't she work through the bonus period? You can't hold back someone's bonus.

I know the goons at Pointroll try and intimidate people by saying they can hold back someone's bonus if they are "not here when it is paid out", but that is not legal and I would assume Gannett knows that!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pointroll tried to steal my bonus when I quit after the quarter was over and then I threatened to sue and they ended up paying all of it. I am sure Gannett does not need anymore problems with their employees there and they will do the right thing.

Sarah was very vindictive when I left and told people she "wanted to screw me over".

    ReplyDelete
  35. I heard that there are two more BIG resignations that are going to happen anyday now! Be prepared for the wrath of Sarah Ripmaster and Rob Gatto.

HEY GRACIA MARTORE AND DAVID PAYNE...ARE YOU LISTENING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. 9:45 AM - SO TRUE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Good for you Julie! I hope she starts a new trend with resignations. "getting ahead of the curve" is true... Rip and Gatto are probably pissed that they can't brag that they fired her. These losers need to be shown the door. 45 people Jim???? That's insane. What's the total turnover rate? Gannett finds this acceptable? Shame on them.

  38. Sarah is probably the worst SVP I have ever worked with. Zero leadership and focused on all the wrong things. I can not wait to give my two weeks.

  49. 9:26am is right. A publisher doesn't have to print everything, but they should provide for an honest discussion referencing both sides. Its clear this publisher has one agenda .......

  50. It seems that all the people that are leaving are the ones that can actually find work! The only people sticking around are the ones that suck and the ones like me who are just along for the ride. I'm not looking, I will wait until Gannett puts someone with a clue in here and cleans house. I'm just going to enjoy the working from home, and coming in late and leaving early on the days when I get my ass in the office!

    ReplyDelete
  51. ""I'm just going to enjoy the working from home, and coming in late and leaving early on the days when I get my ass in the office!""

This is exactly the problem at PointRoll. Lead by example. The management doesn't show up for work and neither does anyone else at this place. Gannett needs to clean this mess up and fast.

    ReplyDelete
  52. That post was from Sarah bit inaccurate she doesn't show up late , she doesn't show up at all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You think Sarah and Robb are working today? Sarah is MIA again, shocker there. Anyone want to take a guess at her bounus for Q2?

    What a joke?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sarah will see about $80,000 for her Q2 bonus.
That's as much or more then most of the Pointroll staff in KOP earn in a year. For someone who works barely 20 hours a week its ridiculous. Pointroll leadership is raping gannett while driving pointroll into the ground.
