An independent journal about the Gannett Co. and the news industry's digital transition
Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

There's no money in the pocket derived from Twitter, so GCI hasn't emphasized it. Big mistake. Look at the lead the NYT has got on this.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Kim Kardashian is cleaning everyone's clock here: She's got 7.1 million followers.
ReplyDeleteUSAT ranks sixth among the top 25 papers (in print circ) in terms of Twitter followers, lagging disproportionately not only direct competitors like NYT and WSJ, but also the Trib and Post (see http://www.thewrap.com/media/column-post/tweet-top-25-newspapers-twitter-26035). It's a very simple indicator of how weak the brand has become.
ReplyDeleteHave you added up all the twitter feeds for USAT? There must be 50+ Every section plus USATech plus USAsocial USATodaysports, etc...there are a ton.
ReplyDeleteso happy you included the formerly missing cobra. Adds a great perspective.
ReplyDeleteIf that is bad, look at Web page usage as reported by Alexa. USA Today falls way down the list of newspapers that people are looking at. Now look at the leaders, BBC and NYT, and ask why readers are looking at these sites. Do you think it might be they are presenting news -- real news that means something to me, not reality TV contest results. (I cannot recall reading a reality TV story in the NYT, but I could be wrong.)
ReplyDeleteThe NYT was all over Snooki early on.
