Mail | Furloughed? Write Dubow a bonus check

Anonymous@11:59 a.m. writes today to suggest the following prank:

Realistically, we're not going to unionize. But all is not lost! Time for some merry prankstering!

We've been misled and taken advantage of. So I think we deserve to have a little bit of fun at their expense.

I say we design obviously bogus numbered checks, and every time we are forced into furlough, we download one, write a "check" for the exact amount we're out and make it payable to Craig Dubow and put "bonus" in the memo line. No need to sign your real name. Just go by your check number: Gannett employee #1, #2, etc. We're just numbers, anyway.

Drop it in the mail to Jones Branch Road, and sit back and watch what happens when word gets out that Dubow is getting hundreds of bogus checks from employees. It will get us media attention, since we're clearly incapable of covering this ourselves.

We can even do it retroactively. I know I'm out $3,000 over three furloughs, and I know exactly where it went. It sure didn't do anything to help the overall financial health of the company, as we were led to believe.

'A great idea!'
In response, Anonymous@2:10 p.m. is ready to sign up:

Someone make up the fake checks, post the web page and the exact address, and I'll be sending mine in! What a GREAT idea!

If someone designs the check, I'll post it in Google Documents, where anyone can download it. Please post your replies in the comments section, below. To e-mail confidentially, write jimhopkins[at]gmail[dot-com]; see Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the rail, upper right.

I Love This IDEA!!!! Let's taembarass them further by adding memo lines like "bonus, but no business plan" or "bonus and a new brand" or how about "bonus for bonzo"? Let's do this!

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
