Urgent: Board declares 4-cent quarterly dividend

In a statement, Corporate just announced that the board of directors today declared a dividend of 4 cents per share, payable Jan. 3 to shareholders of record as of the close of business Dec. 10. The board's decision, which was expected, came during the 10-member panel's regular quarterly meeting. It's unclear whether any other announcements are due.

This marks the eighth consecutive quarter of 4-cent per share dividends since the payout was slashed 90% in February 2009, when the company was in grave financial straits. (Dividend history.)

Following Corporate's announcement today, Gannett shares recently traded for $12.25, up 10 cents, or about 1%. They are now flat from a year ago vs. an 11% gain in the S&P 500 index, a broad measure of overall stock market activity.

  1. Have the directors' limousines been purring in front of the Crystal Palace today?

  2. First of all they were in NYC. Second they use town cars not limos. Were you really a reporter. You don't seem to let facts stand between you and a good story.

  3. Reporters ask questions, and then get answers -- such as the one you supplied. Thanks!

Based on your comment, it appears the company is now moving board meetings around the country; the last one was held in Des Moines, for example.

  4. Lighten up, 7:03 a.m.! I recall a poster from USA Today a while back commenting how funny it was seeing all the board members arrive in their chauffered cars.

So, where were they in New York? And while they were there did any take the time to check out the operations in Westchester, Poughkeepsie or northerner N.J.?

    Hey, give us some info.

  5. as long as they are chauffered, they are technically a limo. that's how they are licensed, dork. and when they meet at the CP, there is a town car for each director.

  6. 7:03: Following is how Wikipedia describes a Town Car, which you referenced; note the last sentence:

"The Lincoln Town Car is a full-size, luxury sedan sold by Ford's upscale Lincoln brand. The Town Car features a V8 engine, body-on-frame design, rear-wheel drive and large exterior and interior dimensions. The Town Car remains one of the best selling American luxury cars in spite of declining sales. It is the United States' and Canada's most used limousine and chauffeured car."

  7. who the heck would say they wanted a "town car" to take them someplace. would the directors? no, they'd say they're heading back to the airport in their limo, not town car.
