Big Al | Your health care dollars at work

[Neuharth, 86, tricycling near his home in Cocoa Beach, Fla.]

"I should have done it long ago."

-- Retired Chairman and CEO Al Neuharth, quoted today in a Space Coast Medicine and Healthy Living story, "Al Neuharth shares vitality secrets," on the double knee replacement surgery he had earlier this year at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Customarily, top Gannett executives and their dependents get health benefits for life upon retirement.

Neuharth also explains why he still writes on a 1926 Royal manual typewriter: "The computer has too soft a touch. I take my frustration out on the keys."

  1. Mayo Clinic is located in Rochester, MN not NY.

  2. I realize the article you cite reported Al's surgery taking place in New York. But I'm guessing he went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
