PR Daily notes 'the big deal' on Gannett layoffs

The public relations trade website highlights Gannett Blog's coverage of executive bonuses, in a post to subscribers this morning.

  1. How many Gannett newspapers ran the story last week on Dubow's pay, in light of the layoffs, consolidations, wage freeze and furloughs?

We get all indignant when banks and oil companies and the like pull such shenanigans.

  2. This is so Gannettish the top dogs feed on steak while asking unions to take pay cuts(12%)in Phoenix. What needs to happen is for all unions to put up informational pickets to show the public just how unfair this company really is.

  3. Agreed. I know there are a lot of non-union folks out there, but I've been surprised at how easily the newspaper unions gave in through all this. They should definitely use their resources to make the bonuses Dubow and company took public. And they should trumpet that information as loudly as possible the next time they are asked to make concessions.

The bottom line is the company couldn't survive if all the workers left, so we shouldn't all fall into the "I'm just grateful to have a job mindset." Especially now that we're at bare bones.
