WSJ: GCI to cut between 1,000 and 2,000 jobs

From The Wall Street Journal's updated story:

The cuts will come from the U.S. Community Publishing division, which consists of Gannett's more than 80 local dailies, the person said, and won't affect the company's flagship, USA Today. The exact number of jobs to be cut wasn't clear. The cuts will be disclosed in the next few days.

What Corporate will tell you: zip
Based on past performance, Corporate will never say how jobs were cut in the end, how many people were laid off -- in or out of newsrooms. Then don't want you to know. They don't want you reading so much as the period at the end of this sentence. Silence is golden -- when you're in line for a seven-figure paycheck, that is.

  5. cuts of 600 jobs are mentioned nowhere in that article.

  6. I'm sorry about the confusion over an earlier headline, which referenced 600 layoffs. That, too, was from a year-ago story. Someone has been passing bad links, apparently trying to stir up trouble.

Being sleep-deprived is no excuse. I'm going to be extra-viligent for the next couple of days. This is why I must read and OK all comments in advance again.

  7. What is corp supposed to tell us? They will tell when there is something to tell. I'm sure the WSJ story is from released info.

    Sheesh!
