Farewell | Final thanks!

Gannett Blog was made possible by tens of thousands of employees and others, more than a few risking their livelihoods in the pursuit of truth. I've been humbled by your trust in me since I began publishing this blog on Sept. 11, 2007. Now, as I get closer to shutting down Gannett Blog on July 10, I want to single out a few for help that was way above and beyond the call. I can't identify everyone publicly, but I'll be sending thank-you notes in the days ahead, starting with:

Shirley in Texas!

You helped turn my lowest moment into my best, when I was preparing for Gannett's annual shareholder's meeting in April. Time and again, one of my favorite retired employees has been there with words of encouragement that lifted my spirits. You, go, grammie!

What could possibly be better than a diamond-encrusted Gannett President's Ring? A Chairman's Ring? Puh-leeze, girl-friend! These thank-yous include the first definitely-not-annual Official Papal-Sparky Mood Ring! So, please, print out, then clip 'n' save this post, and crank up your favorite 1970s disco song. Mine include the Bee Jees's Stayin' Alive, now in the music player, green rail, to your right.

Want to nominate a real unsung hero? Please post your replies in the comments section, below. To e-mail confidentially, write gannettblog[at]gmail[dot-com]; see Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the green rail, upper right.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
