Is it true that the latest casualty at CN is a woman out on maternity leave, who was called at home and told that her job was eliminated? If so, is that even legal?
ReplyDeletewhere is EJ?
ReplyDelete10 am: Who cares?
ReplyDeleteIf true 7:17 that is a shame. I wish her well.
ReplyDeleteIM HEARING P.C.F. THE DISTRIBUTOR THAT TOOK OVER THE ASBURY PARK PRESS HAD A BLOWOUT FIRST DAY WITH 15 DOWN ROUTES AND "WOW" 600 OR MORE CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS .congratulations on a wonderful start - NOT !!! N.J.R.
ReplyDelete7:17 A.M. To the best of my knowledge, it is true! I've read about precisely the same thing happening in other parts of the country. LOW... but, then again, why bring her back and fire her on the first day? I recall this woman and know that she would not take this treatment without seeing a lawyer.
ReplyDelete7:17-- Hasn't this happened before at the APP? I think they have a way to do this maneuver without getting in trouble. It's sooooo Gannett!!!
ReplyDeleteAsbury Park-- any response????

ReplyDeleteapp mens room out of toilet paper please hurry
If your job is eliminated, your job is eliminated. There is no job to come back too. From an attorney, it is perfectly legal.
ReplyDeleteI think what 7:05 is saying is if your POSITION is eliminated, then it is legal.
ReplyDeleteHeard today that Paul G. is quietly keeping a log of reporters' and photographers' work for the week. While he likes to talk about how "creative time" is necessary to produce excellent work, we know he's all business and counting stories and photos. Obviously keeping Skippy stroked and proud of him.
ReplyDeleteHey floozy: Story counts are nothing new in CN land. PG is just continuing a policy started by that gem of an editor JF and that sterling publisher, CN. Since PG thinks CN (the man, not the paper) walks on water, it's no surprise he would continue that.
ReplyDeleteBack in the CN/JF reign (otherwise known as the Dark Ages, or the Era of the Stupid), reporters had to keep logs of all stories they wrote and hand them in weekly. The official word was that management wanted to make sure they were covering a wide variety of towns, but everyone knew they were keeping score.
Actually, JF was keeping score when he wasn't scoring with photographers, production people, advertising people, and on and on.
Well, you won't have the same problem with PG scoring with anything, as he's quite a fright. He's like a suburban, gossippy housewife crossed with a male cardigan-wearing Kindergarten teacher.

PG is excellent at his job - you guys are haters.
ReplyDeleteHey 9:40, then why does he keep reminding people what his job is?
ReplyDeletetiolse -- pretty close to toilet, huh.
PG does like to tell people about himself. This is from today's HNT:
ReplyDeleteManaging editor to discuss news in Woodbridge
— PAUL GRZELLA, managing editor of the Courier News in Somerville, the Home News Tribune in East Brunswick and MyCentralJersey.com, will address Central Jersey Mensa about the changing nature of the local news report, and the various platforms available to people to share their local news and information.
The lecture will take place at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the Hilton Woodbridge, 129 Wood Ave. South, in Iselin. He will discuss how they are evolving and surviving in these tough economic times that are seeing the demise of major businesses and even some big daily newspapers.
Grzella is a native of Somerset County, and a graduate of Northwestern University, with bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism. He has worked for the Courier News since 1983 in a variety of capacities, including copy editor, reporter, local news editor, special sections editor, features editor, associate editor and managing editor.
He has been managing editor of the two Gannett New Jersey newspapers since December 2007.
Mensa is an international organization of people who test in the top 2 percent of IQ tests. The local chapter has 900 members; information about testing or submission of prior qualifying tests will be available at the meeting.
I agree with 9:40 p.m! PG's always been fair. If you do your job, PG doesn't bother you. He doesn't like complainers.
