What I'm doing right now
12:44 p.m., Palm Springs time: Posting a just-taken photo of the San Jacinto Mountains, the snow-capped backdrop for this southern California winter resort where Sparky and I are spending a few days.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

I would suggest taking the tram ride to the top! Pay attention to the warning signs posted as you drive up..it gets very steep in no time at all and your car will overheat! Grab some ribs at the restaurant and watch the sunset! It will be colder up there so take a jacket too!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about a coat, Jim. Burn currency. We all you know you don't need the money, it's all a ruse. Burn some South American $$. Or maybe some you picked up frolicking in Spain. Or hey, if you have to, maybe you can burn "Sparky's" Gannett bonus. We know who he is; you're a kept man.
ReplyDeleteOh, man, the Springs! Stumbled across your blog in search of a history of USA Today which began publishing ca. 1984.
ReplyDeleteI remember that many journalists said it would not survive, that it wasn't journalism, that it imitated TV and look where it's gotten you in life!
You and Sparky must be doing ok to go on all these trips and afford software. Luckily you have a partner to support you. The rest of us are not as lucky.
ReplyDeleteHave you made it to The Desert Sun yet, Jim? Or, at least called the editor, Rick Green? He's someone who still cares about the journalism, even in this mixed-up world of budget cuts, furloughs and other madness. MOre than that, he cares deeply about his staff. He was like that in Cincinnati, too. Several on the staff followed him West because of that. You should give him a call before you leave town. Our hunch is he knows a lot about what's brewing in GCI...
ReplyDeleteHey! Do yourself a favor, if Palermo's is still open -- just south of the airport, tiny sandwich/pizza place, -- go. Best pizza ever and the sandwiches --excellent! He bakes the bread himself. Tell Sophia hello -- from Susie. I ate there more than I did at home when I was at TDS years ago. Have fun, ya'll deserve it.
