  1. Idea? I've got an idea! How about not overreacting! How about reminding people how they survived SARS, Ebola, that flesh-eating bacteria, Mad Cow Disease, The Y2K Bug, Bird Flu, Sarbanes-Oxley and whatever was The Next Big Mass Killer?

Pretty radical idea, I know. But when it starts killing a million people a year, like malaria does, year in, year out, then maybe mention it.

  2. Not to mention the regular flu kills over 36,000 people a year. People need to CALM THE HECK DOWN.

  3. Relax, I've been involved in every ridiculous T.V.-induced panic there is. Poison pills, SARS, West Nile, North Face, South Fork, East River, monkeypox, pop rocks, toilet snakes, mad cow, bird flu, swine flu, and, quite frankly, every other flu that you could really only catch if you're actually fornicating with the animal it's named for. And as a parting gift, I will tell you this: Narrow it down to two symptoms -- vomiting and diarrhea. Because it's just not E. coli unless it's firing out both exits."

  4. What's more, such a simple prevention measure is something your mother always told you.
Wash you hands every time you come out of the bathroom. Wash you hands before you eat. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Don't bite your nails or suck your thumb.

[The last one will be difficult for all of Jim's detractor, I know, but consider the sacrifice for the health of the nation.]

  5. are local universities canceling study abroad programs?

ditto for high schools and also choral or band or club trips?

what about pending foreign exchange student agreements?

what about migrant workers who come into the us each spring to harvest crops starting in the south and working north and the farms which hire them?.
