Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDeleteHNT is renting office space in Piscataway - interesting. Bye bye New Brunswick.
ReplyDeleteSo did Skippy go to the board of directors meeting?

ReplyDeleteCan somebody tell me? Is that dickweed still in charge of news at the APP?
ReplyDeleteWould someone provide the latest circulation numbers and trend information for the NJ papers? Thanks
ReplyDeleteSkip is publisher of the HNT and CN now. He left the APP a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Somerville "bureau" of the CN was the beginning of the end ... see where that logic takes you on HNT's Piscataway office.
Skip is the publisher of the HNT and CN, but if you think he's not trying to take control of the APP as well, you simply haven't been paying attention.
ReplyDeleteWhy else would he have been in control of the managers' interviews for the new regional production set-up?
I was just stating where he was for the commenter who asked. I can't read his mind, so I don't know his intentions. Considering the APP is the mother ship, any involvement he has doesn't surprise me ... but I'm sure his nonpresence in the building has made an impact, good or not.
ReplyDeleteWhy are there copy editor openings listed on the Asbury Park jobs section?

Do these vacancies really exist?
Just saw that Ev Landers died. Although I don't wish to speak ill of the dead, I can't help but shutter when I think of his weekly training sessions. Those things were the bane of my existance during my early years at the Press.

ReplyDeleteIf you read the obituary for Ev
ReplyDeleteLanders, you'll see that Skippy thinks he was the best thing since sliced peaches! Fugures!
As for speaking negatively of the deceased, the NJ Confidential blog would die if we did not. So many in our midst are brain dead.
Gannett has been looking for some time to lease office space off I-287 in Piscataway or Franklin Twp. Once that goes through they'll move the HNT and C-N under the same roof.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the C-N it didn't hold its deadlines for Game 7 of the New Jersey Devils playoff round -- which the Devils lost on a goal with 37 seconds left. The HNT got the game in but put it bottom of sports front (Yankees game above the fold).
I thought Skip and Bob Ingle's quotes about Ev Landers were spot-on. There was much more to Ev than the training sessions he led near his retirement. He was an old-fashioned newspaper guy, and I liked that about him.
ReplyDeleteI miss the old guard. Newsrooms have lost their best characters.
Skippy,
ReplyDeleteBecause I suspect you do not know THNT and CN turf, you may be figuring how to get to the board of directors meeting. Get on 18, hit Exit 9 and go southbound.

Stop already, not engaging at all :)) can you change the rules little bit? :)) Word verification 'hatein'.
