  1. The only rumors going around in NJ about reductions are related to the combining of news room work at the four papers and the upcoming circulation changes at the APP.

  2. With circulation being outsourced, the consolidation of the newsroom, and sales having been restructured, I'd say that our papers here in NJ have already done their own form of layoffs. The good news is that come the next round of mass layoffs, we won't be touched!

  3. What's going on in NJ today? I hear it's not good

  4. 6:52 one would only hope so. Take what ever comfort from this you can.

  5. 8:13, salaried production editors and assistant editors were told yesterday their positions were eliminated and they can apply for similar positions on the regional production desk. Interviews start today. Only 16 positions for 30 or so editors at APP, HNT/CN, DR.

I'm sure they already have a plan as to who will be hired and who let go. And it's a money-saving plan, so the person with the lowest pay has a better chance of being on the "stay" list. All others will be let go.

I understand why they're consolidating production desks, but it's so sad to see this happening.

  6. Very timely! Today's Courier Post carries a story about how to deal with getting a pink slip at your work. So thoughtful of them to think of us during these times. Good thing that every employee gets to see a copy of the paper at work.

  7. "NEW JERSEY ROCKS"
    BUT THE PAPERS SUCK

lets hear from some of the
    courier post slaves.

  8. 9:33, I seriously doubt this is going to be a case of they keep the folks with the lowest pay, given who's doing the "interviewing."

This is going to be all about who's a favorite and who's not, and if you think otherwise, you don't understand the personalities of the players making all the decisions.

  9. What is a "production desk"?

  10. More work to do, bad conditions, pay freezes, furloughs, layoffs pending, quality of the paper deteriorating significantly...just another day in Gannett-NJ land.
And congratulations to Craig Moon on his $3.7 million get of jail card!

Have the hard-hitting reporters finally resolved the building issue? Maybe they're suffering a letdown from their rare round of muck-raking.

    Back to celebrity news!

  12. Is there a point to speaking up on behalf of good managers during the rehiring process? I hope those who have actually done their jobs well would be retained... but I know better.

Also, any idea how this will impact reporters and photogs? I hear the Daily Record doesn't have the same content-management system as the other GNJ papers.

  13. Does this consolidation mean a universal desk? Or will sports and news still be separate?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Is anyone going to report on the BIG circulation meeting at APP today? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  15. APP - GET READY TO FALL FLAT ON YOUR FACE WHEN YOU HEAR WHAT THE SO CALLED SEVERANCE PACKAGE IS THATS BEING OFFERED.

  16. it's been nice knowing you, neptune and navesink dc's. why do you think your meeting is 1 hour before the rest of the circulation meets. it's not because the auditorium isn't big enough to fit everyone at once. AC

  17. Hey NJ rocks, they'll be a rock slide Thurs in Neptune! Do you want fries with that! LOL

  18. Hey app distribution in freehold. don't think your getting a free pass on the layoffs. your just a signature away from the unemployment line. That goes for whats left of the transportation dept. as well.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The APP circultion dept has passed away. Long live PCF!!!!!

  21. 12:06, sounds like your heart is in the right place, but it's a waste of effort.

They don't care about who's good or bad. They only care about who they like.

  27. Any building news today? Have the hard-hitting reporters finally unearthed some info?

    ReplyDelete
  28. He isn't calling the shots. He is merely a puppet. The way Gannett is being run now they certainly don't need publishers. They aren't making any decisions on their own.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now that copy editing for the DR, HNT, CN and APP are being centralized in Neptune, watch for General Assignment reporters to be eliminated and municipal beat reporters replaced by part-time stringers. It's all about cutting salaries folks.

  30. I live for the day a certain publisher is shown the door. Then I really will believe in karma.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I saw Karma in action last September.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wonder when they will finish centralizing advertising production in Neptune. Seems to me that there is a lot more streamlining to be done. What say you JR?

  33. Karma is Happening the the 90,000$ + crowd

  34. 6:30, he is calling the shots as to who stays and who goes.

    You watch.
