  1. A reader left the following comment in today's Real Time Comments open forum. I'm following their suggestion, and posting their note, here:

Jim, I think you should bring back Elmira Confidential. Employees are all just a little shell shocked right now. You should give it more time. It is D-Day Sunday for Ithaca, Elmira and Binghamton.

Their newsrooms are never going to be the same after the consolidation of the copy desks goes into effect.

  3. Yesterday would have been the last day for eight Elmira staffers. Then Binghamton realized that there would have been nobody to paginate the Sunday Elmira paper.

And people wonder why Binghamton is a bad word in Elmira.

  4. It would have been the last day for 6 people ... not 8.
And Binghamton isn't a bad word in my book. They're just carrying through with orders from corporate. They are not to be envied with this change ... they are face to face with some immense challenges.
The only problem was the lack of communication and collaboration during the whole process... which seems to be an issue within many corporations.

  8. Binghamton employees are doing what corporate tells them to do. If you want to blame anyone, blame the mothership.

Sorry if that doesn't fit your angry worldview, but it's true.
