Shreveport: In photo gallery, a cotillion lives on

[Unidentified debutantes, Delta Sigma Theta Cotillion]

I stumble across some terrific photography when I wander through slide shows at random. I found this in a selection by photographer Maggie Martin in the photo galleries section at The Times of Shreveport, La. The cotillion was held Saturday night.

  3. As a photographer, I would hardly consider this "terrific photography." Is this a serious comment on your part or are you making a joke that I don't quite get?

  4. Perhaps I should have said a terrific example of casual photography. In any case, I welcome your suggestions for examples of better work.

  5. As a gannett photographer, I'd say this looks like a "terrific example" of what we're expected to do at any event with lots of warm bodies. Take as many photos as possible and throw them all up on the web as quickly as possible for web hits.

  6. This was shot by a features reporter. Obviously.

  8. Agree...this is great for the family but as quality photos, not so much. I guess if you think this is great casual photography, no wonder the websites are clogged with this crap.

  9. Maggie has been a reporter for over four decades. She's covered enterprise, investigative, city halls etc. She is a features reporter and covers numerous events during a weekend. She is accompanied by her husband, Paul, who shoots many of the galleries posted. Maggie and Paul's galleries get more hits than most of the photographer galleries.

It's a popular feature and frees the photographers to cover what some call more important events.

  10. Terrific photography my ass. That four year old in the PC commercials could do better.

Typical, though. Shreveport is considered the golden child of the Gannett Louisiana papers, but I'll never figure out why. It's not bad, just not nearly as good as what they make it out to be.
