Pink's the new black: We're among best '08 trends!

The Newspaper Death Watch blog drew its list of the best and worst trends of 2008 from 147 entries it published over the past year. In the watchdog category, "Gannett Blog became a major source of news about job cuts at the company,'' the editors said. "Only the site isn't run by Gannett but rather by a former employee, Jim Hopkins. The New York Times cited Gannett as a poster child of corporate cluelessness because it refuses to pay attention to the blog, despite the fact that Hopkins' posts can draw hundreds of comments. Hopkins assembled field reports from employees at more than 70 newspapers about recent layoffs, making the blog the most comprehensive source of news about that topic."

  1. I wonder if this means I've jumped the shark?

  2. No James, you jump the shark if you ditch the Santa hat in favor of a 'baby new year' getup for the videos.

    Eww.

  3. Don't know if you've jumped the shark, but you're surely on a roll, Jim! Keep up the good work.

  4. Congratulations, Jim, for the recognition.
But it must be a double edged feeling. Great your blog is a go to site. Terrible that the demise of a bunch of great newspapers and newsie's careers has fueled it.
I'd come here if you were reporting the roaring success newspapers and journalists were enjoying, however.
It is going to be a better year for everyone, I just know it.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
