  2. I remember back when I was at Gannett, they awarded an award with $1000 cash to someone who rewrote the Pay Plan for the Sales Department. The new pay plan actually made us work harder for less money. I know, I know, big surprise. But basically this person was awarded in front of all of us for their effort to make our job harder.

Probably no surprise that several successful Ad Sales people left shortly after this new pay plan was implemented, thus costing the company thousands in unrenewed contract revenue.

Looking at how thin the paper is getting these days, they'd probably like the $1000 back along with those salespeople.

  3. Beware, last year's manager of the year was laid off in Phoenix in December.

  4. Come to think of it, there's been a time shift. The awards were announced in Dec. 2007; this is already mid January 2009. Someone get a little behind in the midst of all the layoffs?

  7. Who cares? Other than the ass-kissers probably nobody. Perfect tool to award the incapable and bottom-feeders. The real doers get nothing, because they are taken for granted anyway.
