Missing in Texas: Another $40,000 in Dubow money

The Gannett Foundation's inability to track potentially millions of dollars it spends on charity extends to CEO Craig Dubow's alma mater, the foundation's manager says. Dubow channeled $40,000 in direct grants to the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and 2005, mostly for endowed scholarships, public tax returns show.

But UT's website does not give the foundation credit. However, the site does list two scholarships named for Dubow and his wife -- the Craig A. and Denise W. Dubow Endowed Presidential Scholarship, and the Craig A. and Denise W. Dubow Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Athletics.

Citing a similar problem with other recipients, foundation Manager Pat Lyle said yesterday that she did not know the $40,000's whereabouts at the Austin school.

  1. Let me guess: Dubow's largess-by-proxy strikes again? Good thing that he doesn't have to spend any of his own money. After all, he has so little...

  2. Dubow is playing with other people's money here, so why should he care if the scholarship money is spent or not. He has no skin in the game.

  3. I suggest when he dies, he might request to be buried in one of those fireproof suits the stunt people use.

    Hell need it.

  4. Dubow should resign. Resign now before the investigation gains enough momentum that criminal charges start coming out. Then again - it's probably already reached that stage. Start packing Dumbo Dubow!

  5. Foundation reps can attempt to spin this anyway they can and/or are told.

But, the bottom line here is that Dubow and spouse get annual accountings of their "scholarships" so they know exactly where the money went and how it was recorded. To not correct it here, and at WC is more than disingenuous on his part.

Fess up and fix it Dubow, else you confirm that you are truly ethically bankrupt.

  6. Don't forget that the endowment requests that thank you notes be sent to the Dubows personally and directly, even giving their address.
