  1. This would be funny, but I was one of the 513. Shout out to all my stressed-out brothers out there!

  2. These corporate execs are people who pull wings off of flies. This unnecessary tension is killing all of us. For God's sake, please get it over with.

  3. As I am sure your usage tracking statistics tell you, you've even got international readers (It was 9am for me when I was making up one of the 513.) I'm not at Gannett - thank god! - but I've got immediate family members who are hoping to have jobs at Christmas.
Also, although this is a bit cynical, reading about the horrors many of you seem to endure makes me feel slightly better about my own crappy job!

  4. midnight East Coast is only 9PM on West coast. I bet that is where most of your traffic comes from. I know that is when I take a look.

  5. Um, perhaps there are a lot of copy editors reading when they get home after their shifts ...

  6. Copy editors? Maybe. I've had readers 24/7 for months now, but I've never seen early-morning traffic like this.

  7. Are there really people posting in here to argue that these layoffs are NOT keeping people awake. Take a look around your newsrooms, friends, you will see the dark shadows and the strain on co-workers' faces. It is evident everywhere.

    Signed,

  8. I am one of those. I woke up at 2:30 and went to the computer to see if you found out anything new. The tension involving this round of layoffs is worse than others I have been, perhaps because of the miserable economy. There aren't even Christmas jobs this year because people aren't buying. Two more weeks. Wow,

  9. I know I have taken Ambien on more than one occasion and woken up in the morning to discover I had posted on Gannett Blog -- without remembering doing so!

And some of my posts were really good, resulting in later blog posts by Jim.
