Our GM doesn't have a car the company pays for, to the best of my knowledge. I believe it is a used BMW SUV -- I forget what the model number is. It's about three years old; he's had it since I've worked here.

My AME drives an old, red Chevy Cavalier with a lot of body dings. I scream with laughter every time I see it.

FYI, BMW X3's are very expensive, usually up towards 50k. and gas mileage is not great.

When publisher left, new GM turned down company car and used own car to save expense; after just a few months the big cuts started coming down and new GM left Gannett. Now the Chrysler has been sitting in parking lot for more than a year.
I don't know if Brevard's publisher is supplied a vehicle.

It's not an issue of significance; it is about appropriateness and appearance. It's about stretch limos at board meetings; it's about getting weekend tans using the GCI jet; it's about giving pubs free gas and a bimmer and paying employees 28-cents a mile; it's about not being able to file a story because your 4 year old laptop handed down from advertising won't boot. It's about getting rid of older employees and those with chronic diseases and replacing them with $33K wonders. That my friends, is what it is all about.

When Christine Chin came to Fort Collins two or three years ago, she brought her own dinged up station wagon.

I am a publisher, and I get no free gas from my company (!) nor does the company provide me with a vehicle. If anyone cares, I drive a 2001 Honda CRV. Not all newspaper companies give out car and gas perks to publishers. Some of us work for a living.
