Whoo-hoo: It's single-copy price increase day!

Today's e-mail brings reports of 50% hikes at the Tallahassee Democrat and the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle -- two papers among the reported 20 papers scheduling such hikes.

  2. So did Poughkeepsie, NY. And we all (even in the newsroom) received an email from circulation with talking points on how to handle calls with complaints.

Hey, isn't that what the Center for Excellence is for?

  6. I would love to know how these price increases hurt single copy sales. If they slide as page views have online, could this be the second leg of the table crumbling?

Also got a question: What's the big deal with the 50,000 sub mark? At this paper, all the big deals are worried about us going below 50,000. What does it mean?

Ad sales and ad costs are based on ABC circ. numbers...I don't know all the details...if you slide below 50,000 you become a small daily and can't charge advertisers as much.
There's also a concern for paid circ. vs. non-paid circ numbers such as NIE.

Can anyone fill in the details?
