  1. All of Gannett's Sunday newspapers have a "Big Summer Deals Week" advertorial today. Obvious advertiser bait pushed by corporate to bring in revenue. Meanwhile stories that need to be localized aren't getting a local touch.

Any local GM dealers losing their franchises? Unlike Chrysler, GM is not disclosing who's getting cut. The Detroit Free Press did report on a dealer that's losing Pontiac -- but GM is discontinuing Pontiac, a fact the Freep omitted.

Problems with the transition to digital TV? In New Jersey the Courier News gave it all of 2 paragraphs in Daily Briefing, the world/national page force-fed from corporate. A local PBS station in my area can't boost its digital signal to full power until 2 other stations cut off analog signals -- and the Courier News has yet to report the story.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
