Monday Recap: Try retiring on that, suckers!

Posts you might have missed last week while a major investor doubled its ownership stake in Gannett:
  • Retiring pension: In a sweeping restructuring, GCI froze its pension plan and gave the 401(k) an anemic boost.
  • White flag: Management's supporters have mostly given up defending the company before Gannett Blog readers.
  • GNS shuttered? We debated whether Gannett News Service is closing; some readers doubted its demise would even matter.

  1. The more I read here regardless of many years in the daily newspaper business, the more amazed. And I shouldn't be. What once felt like working for DuPont, from the cradle to the grave, ended. The sweatshop comments were and probably are still real. Lots of sweat, dirt, and grim underneath those fingernails.

Leadership from the top. Or should I say vacuum. And not just Dubow...go back two decades.

Russert, a really top guy. And at the top of the list on any human scale.
