Monday Recap: Transformation now = you're fired

Posts you might have missed, while an Arizona Republic blogger argued that Journalisticus Newspaperus Americanus is in more trouble than polar bears.
  • Less is more 1.0: USA Today reorganized circulation accounting operations in what a Gannett Blog reader called one of GCI's best-kept secrets in years.
  • Less is more 2.0: A Dave Lougee letter foreshadowed big changes in how Broadcasting's 23 TV stations produce graphics.
  • Traffic-goosing link: A blogger, a '500' pace car -- and a penis.

  1. The Perfect Storm brought to you by the daily newspaper industry. Why the big surprise? This has been going on since Gannett acquired its tasteless, myopic, classless ego. The papers of old...Iowa, Kentucky, and Michigan...mere slivers of their past.

The local community was ignored...local readers...local advertisers. The arrogance has been coming full circle for years.

Payback time. This corporation has sucked for a long time...followed close behind by MediaNews, and McClatchy.

    Expendable. All.

  2. On another blog piece here. Unions, have not been helpful to places like Philly, and the Journal Register Company properties either.

But, given the events in New Jersey, soon to be duplicated elsewhere, I'd vote on collective bargaining.

The nonsense that Collins got away with...and now Donovan, speaks to the need for transparency. And fairness.

  3. And still no official press release on Gannett's official website. Silence.

I knew some of the past Gannett principals. With few exceptions, the egotistical demeanor was communicated up and down the ranks of management.

It was protection of the kingdom at all costs. It was always about those who were hiding the truth. And some of those players had to pay.

Today a hero. Tomorrow a goat.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
