Does anybody have any idea as to when the Elmira and Ithaca office is closing and moving to Binghamton?
ReplyDeleteABC has released their numbers for six months ending March 31, 2009
ReplyDeleteHaven't looked at Sunday circ, but here are the daily numbers
Binghamton dropped from 48,306 to 43,647 a loss of 9.6% from prior year.
Elmira dropped from 23,995 to 20,440, a loss of 14.8% from prior year
Ithaca was the "star" dropping from 14,711 to 13,708 a loss of "only" 7.2%
Losses are deeper than that, as the first two months of the reporting period the single copy prices were still at 50 cents.

ReplyDeleteUm ... they're not. How's that for an answer?
Quit trying to stir up shit.
The Elmira building is for sale, so the office will be closed. They will leave people in Elmira but will probably work out of a storefront somewhere - with the circ losses noted above, they probably aren't much more profitable than the local shopper in Horseheads.
ReplyDeleteWhile Elmira is getting ready to sell their building and move into tents or whatever, the little paper in Sayre PA - about half way between Binghamton and Elmira - is installing presses - think they see a weak Elmira paper as a target?
ReplyDeleteJust because the Elmira building is for sale doesn't mean that anybody wants to buy a building in Elmira.

ReplyDeleteThe Horseheads Shopper folks just moved into The Corning Leader's building...maybe they're going to start ganging up on Elmira, too.
Goodbye Elmira and Ithaca and welcome to Binghamton. Not to worry, we will take good care of you.
