Washburn on cooperating across the Chinese wall

In a Forbes story about newsrooms working more closely with advertising departments, Des Moines Register Editor Carolyn Washburn says cooperation between news and ad-sales staffers now runs deeper than in the past. "Five years ago, it wouldn't have happened,'' Washburn tells Forbes.

  1. the only "cooperation" there should be between advertising and the newsroom is that the newsroom's layout people should fit the copy around the ads. anything else betrays the readers.
