  1. Someone asked Jim if Spanky had sent him a vial of sperm. That was hilarious.

But Jim and Spanky are probably too dumb to know how to preserve it. So when Jim gets it, the contents will be dried out.

Then Jim will take to the streets to sell a vial of "crack." Some D.C. addict is going to get a big, big surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Odds on today's outcomes:

    2-1: Jim pusses out. Again.

5-1: Jim is exposed as a fraud at the meeting.

15-1: Jim is found dead of autoerotic asphyxiation in his hotel room, where he is registered under the name of Elton Michael.

25-1: Jim is arrested for selling Spanky's dried-out seed as "crack."

35-1: Jim gets "lost" on the way to the meeting.

45-1: The soap-opera ending: Jim's long-dead lover reveals himself to be alive in a shocking plot twist, just as Spanky shows up to surprise Jim. Gunplay and wanking result. Gannett turns the event into a seven-part series that spawns two best-sellers, a Pulitzer, and a movie. Bronson Pinchot plays Jim to a T.

FIRST TWO POSTER DUDES ARE TOTAL JACKASSES! MAYBE JIM WILL DELETE THEM BEFORE THEIR MOTHERS SEE THEM!
HAVE THEY NOT SUFFERED ENOUGH WITH TRYING TO EDUCADE SUCH MORONIC LITTLE(in every respect) FELLAS???

The second poster at 11:11 PM has presented the absolutely most tasteless and depraved, as well as senselessly cruel entry we can remember in our entire lifetimes.

Hortense asked me to post for her. She is angry and extremely grossed out at the moment. She is praying that the brain dead person who wrote 25-1 in that second blog be castrated, however she realizes there are no balls left to remove.

This last bit of horrible taste and character goes immediately to the top of Gannett's "Hall of Shame" (You filthy bastard!)

  6. Seems like some want this blog to die. The laid off workers - doubt it. Gannett workers wondering what is going on in the company - doubt it. Corporate nitwits who don't like info getting out faster than they can spin it - bingo.

  7. The homophobia evinced on this blog lately is stomach-turning.
I doubt it's corporate, either. Even that group isn't so stupid as to engage in this sort of behavior.
Those of you who engage in it should be ashamed.
And probably should see a counselor to figure out why you you have such an unhealthy fascination with talking about an openly gay man's sex life.
Let's put it bluntly: You want some cock and are getting yourself off by writing about someone else who doesn't hide the fact that he does.
    So sad.

  8. Actually, I see 2 types of trolls at work here. One kind is either paid by corporate or works for them in other roles, but are teaming up in an organized way to discredit the anti-Gannett message exploding from this blog. The second kind is the deeply disturbed homophobes who indeed haven't come to grips with their own homosexual tendencies. That's just classic psychology.

Subject: An update on protecting sources and posters

    April 24, 2009

    To: Gannett editors and publishers

    From: Kate Marymont

The Gannett company has always championed free speech, a cornerstone of a free society.

As conversations have moved from coffee shops to digital forums to tweets and retweets, our role in free speech has become more complex. It is worthwhile to share regularly a reminder of Gannett's practices.

Barbara Wall and the legal team work with journalists across Gannett to stay on top of changing media and the issues they present. Amid all that change, some core values remain unchanged:

n Gannett has been a leader in efforts to protect sources. Just this week a reporter at the Detroit Free Press learned he would not have to go to jail for refusing to reveal confidential sources. David Ashenfelter was named in a civil lawsuit by a former federal prosecutor. He case had become a rallying cry for media groups seeking to create a federal shield law to protect journalists.

    * Our company also has been at the front of battles to preserve open - and anonymous - speech across our communities.

Barbara and her team have repeatedly resisted subpoenas seeking the identities of people who post on our online forums. For example, four times in the last year Westchester has gone to court with motions to quash subpoenas seeking the identity of its posters. And, last summer Gannett joined the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and The Washington Post in a friend of the court brief urging the Maryland Court of Appeals to quash a poster subpoena. In February, Maryland's highest court issued a decision refusing to unmask the identities of five internet forum posters in a widely cited opinion which affirms the First Amendment right to speak anonymously. Independent News v. Brodie (Court of Appeals of Maryland, February 27, 2009)

Forums and blogs are powerful tools to let the voiceless be heard. Sometimes the debates and discussions can get heated or ugly. We have to have a high tolerance for debate while at the same time insisting on a certain amount of civility.

Our journalists are asked often to identify those who have posted controversial comments. Gannett's policy is to refuse those requests.

If a subpoena is served, the law department should be notified and will step in, as in Westchester. One caveat: If the post contains a specific threat of violence - as opposed to a menacing statement - we will cooperate with or notify authorities.

Please make sure that you are carving out time to discuss these policies with your journalists. With today's hectic pace it's more important than ever that everyone understand our company positions. That will make decisions easier when issues pop up.

As always, if you have any questions please contact Barbara or me.

    Thanks.

    Kate.

  11. 4/28/2009 7:10 AM is relentless.
I will be glad when Jim is back home blogging again and can edit him out of the conversation as quickly as he posts.
That people like 7:10 p.m. exist, slick but foul, deeply concerns me as a journalist and a person. As a reporter, I have looked into the eyes of criminals who were evil personified.
I believe we have been exposed to a mind that is no less corrupt and perverted in 7:10's postings.
    Get thee behind me, Satan.

  12. You know what some of you posters just suck!!!!! Just angry assholes venting on Jim, he did not start this blog to hear from assholes venting on him.....remember this is "The Gannett Blog" not the "Lets pick on Jim blog" if you people do work for Gannett I truly hope you are gone in the next round, because I don't see you as my co-working peers....

  13. Jim, thanks for carrying water at the meeting - thrilled to see you are there representin'. Remember, our security is locked up in that stock.
Love the blog and am cheering for you today.

The notion of Jim "pussing out, after being the only one around this joint to actually post his name, is laughable.

You can make jokes, if that's what you think they are, about Jim being found dead. But the rest of us know the score. I can't wait to see the day when Jim publishes the ISP data on repeat trolls like yourself.

We know you were given a mission to disrupt things in here, like some thugs breaking up a union meeting, but rest assured that your homophobic rants are achieving the opposite effect.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jim, I beg you, please find a way to edit this %$#@ out. I cannot stand being subjected to it every morning, yet I dont want to abandon your blog. I know it's a lot of work to chase the handful of trolls, but I am so grateful when you weed them out and toss them in the compost pile where they belong. Good luck today! The vast majority of us are grateful for all you do.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Who posts this homophobic crap? What does Jim's sex life have to do with his reporting here? Jim's gay. Get over it. And bringing up his "long-dead lover," 11:11, is just bullshit. Anybody you ever love die? Ever love anybody?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good morning Jim, how's our favorite millionaire? Big day for you today. Time to shake things up over at the big HQ. Did you ever decide what question you were going to ask at the shareholder's meeting?--I thought you were going to post it so that we could hold *ahem management accountable?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 8:20, You are so right! What these people don't understand is that ALL American males have some homosexual desires. We all have watched porn at some time or another. So a question for you guys out there. When the little tart is getting railed by some dude, do you want to see some small little peter going to town or some big ol' cock tearing that thing up? That's what I thought.

Jim, I could care less if you're gay. Just keep us informed about Gannett business and you'll be just fine. Thanks again.

  19. More haters = more influence.

The homophobic stuff just makes me laugh. I hope Jim sees that drivel for exactly what it is.

  21. Hey Amir, don't you have something more useful to do than peddle your own paranoid grudges against someone who's not here to defend herself? Mary Ann is on her honeymoon but, if you like, I can come over and kick your ass on her behalf.

How about moving along and finding something useful to do?

    ReplyDelete
  22. My observation is that about 90% of the homophobia and Jim-hating stuff comes from one person, possibly two, but no more.

And, the posts have a decidedly "Joisey" ring. I have a strong suspicion a New Jersey Group top manager -- maybe two -- thinks he (they) is (are) pretty clever.

Lack of integrity and creativity, however, that those posts demonstrate are exactly what got Gannett into this mess.

It's so sad to see the profession I devoted my life to run by such fools now.

    Hold your head high, Jim.

  31. What about ABC circulation numbers for GCI newspapers? Does Jim have to submit a FOIL request?

    ReplyDelete
  32. You know 2:26 AM, as a straight female, that is exactly my thoughts as well on the recent homophobic, 'picture this' posts. Truly, only those who are lacking will get so violently nasty about such things. Kind of like the bullies in school. They are usually the most insecure about themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jim, did you sell that vial of crack?

"The notion of Jim "pussing out, after being the only one around this joint to actually post his name, is laughable."

I know people who are willing to post, with their names, about how much Jim sucks. But they don't want 200 dickless Gannett burnouts ripping them, especially when Jimmy gives the anonymous cowards permission to do so.

Once Jim puts a cap on the worst of the worst, who cannot write or spell to save their lives, then some rules might apply. But if he's going to let the worst of the worst run things, then it's anything goes.

Jim may suck, but the sheep who keep coming on here to lick his nuts are worse. Here's hoping Gannett IDs and fires the sycophants.

    ReplyDelete
  34. To clarify:

It's OK -- encouraged? -- to blast people who aren't on their honeymoon.

Once they board that plane, boat, car, bus, hovercraft or rocket with their betrothed, though, all criticisms must cease for the duration of said honeymoon.

    Noted. Thanks for that.

"Spelling and Grammer" self appointed police officer? What a huge ego you have, I must say.

The only sheep around here is you, following this blog with OCD style behavior.

Each time you post, you add to the success of this blog. Contributing to the pageviews and post counts.

So keep it up...no matter how useless or hate filled they may be.

It's quite obvious Corporate's motives to discredit this blog have backfired.

  36. Hunke, Hillkirk named to top posts at USA Today April 28 11:05 AM ET

McLEAN, Va. (AP) - USA Today, the nation's largest newspaper, has filled its top two editorial positions.

David Hunke was named publisher of the newspaper Tuesday, and John Hillkirk was promoted to editor.

Hunke had been publisher of the Detroit Free Press and chief executive of the partnership that oversees that newspaper and The Detroit News. Hillkirk had been USA Today's executive editor.

Gannett Co., USA Today's owner, announced the changes at the company's shareholder meeting. The positions opened in recent months after USA Today Publisher Craig Moon announced his retirement and the newspaper's editor, Ken Paulson, left for a nonprofit group that promotes free speech.

  38. Is it me, or did The Arizona Republic, Gannett's largest daily set a new level of arrogance? All last week ads were on the front page announcing "something Big this Monday" which was yesterday and nothing was mentioned in the paper. No change, nothing mentioned. In today's paper comes a similar house ad stating "The Arizona Republic is growing Sunday circulation! Together, Arizona residents and The Arizona Republic are doing great things."
I understand the value of letting advertisers know circ is growing, but what "great things" is the paper and residents doing? I suppose it was great that the Tribune essentially disappeared from the market providing a windfall. But what "great things"?

    ReplyDelete

ABC numbers are suppose to be accessible to all, if not, then the paper is hiding them for obvious reasons.

  40. Hooray for Hunke. At last, we will soon see the sheep herded together for the shearing. For too long, USAT has regarded itself as being above other newspapers when it comes to running an economical operation, and being cost-effective. It's been money for anything for too long, and those of us out here in the community papers have long thirsted to see USAT brought to account for things like all the free parking, the subsidized gym, the subsidized cafe, and the extravagance of a D.C. bureau in Newseum offices when corporate spent all this money to put USAT and headquarters in McLean. I, for one, am celebrating today.

  42. 11:48 -- Why cheer Hunke? Isn't Detroit one of the only Gannett papers that has actually been losing money year-to-year?

Nothing against the Freep. I think it's one of our better newspapers when it comes to journalism.

But how do you figure this guy is going to save USAT when his own paper was a money loser.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hunke worked magic in Detroit and turned a money losing operation into a profit center. Now we will see how he works his skills with USAT.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Was anyone at the meeting? What questions did Jim ask and what was the response?

  47. I saw the meeting and I thought Jim did a good job, but honestly, I think he is better quiet. I thought he sounded uncertain, unprepared, scared, nervous, figity (sp). It kind of took away from the mystery of Jim.

He did not know how to hold a microphone (and you would think with all that experience holding long hard objects, he would be a pro handling a microphone).

Overall, he asked some tough questions that made the executive team (more like Dickey, Dubow and Director Williams) squirm.

Good job Jim. Just work on your delivery. You could have been even more effective.

    ReplyDelete
  48. MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Shareholders of Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI - News) today re-elected Chairman, President and CEO Craig A. Dubow, Howard D. Elias, Marjorie Magner, Scott K. McCune, Duncan M. McFarland, Donna E. Shalala, Neal Shapiro and Karen Hastie Williams to the Board of Directors at the annual meeting held at the company’s headquarters. Each received more than 95% of the votes cast.

Looks like 95% of the stockholders like the job Dubow and others are doing.

  49. Heard you hogged the mike at the annual meeting today, Jim. Hope you heard everyone laughing at you around the building, watching on the TV feed.

There are valid points to be made about Gannett, and I've never seen them here. But I'm sure you got a big ego boost from confusing "irritating someone" with "asking tough questions."

  59. Jim, post the IP addresses of these disgusting posters. It's not like they're sources of anything important, or even relevant.
Besides, the "net result" will be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I say let the trash keep posting and leave it for all the world to read. Speaks well of their (presumptive) employer.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm still puzzled about this line of inquiry on charitable contribution by the CEO. Prior to working for Gannett (I am no longer with GCI), I worked for two other publicly traded companies and both had nearly identical programs that allowed a specific dollar amount in contribution to the executives' named charity. This was in addition to matched contributions that executives or non-executive employees could make.

Of all of the things that could have been asked, this persistent line of questioning about the CEO's decision to create a scholarship fund is at the very least odd and does make the questioner appear to be a "gadfly" rather than a crusader or journalist.

I think most Gannett stakeholders are more concerned with how the company will make it through the current recession and what kind of business models are being looked at to effectively transition the company and industry to a multi-platform future.

It would have certainly been appropriate for the self-appointed leader of the "Gannett dispossesed" to have focused on how the company plans to get out of the ditch.

Instead, the snarky (what is my name?) and odd line of questions made it easy for Dubow and the board to basically ignore the questioner.

You certainly must be corporate lackeys. As a copy editor working hard to keep my job, I applaud Jim for doing whatever he can to hold this board accountable. And about the stockholders, I got the biggest laugh from that one. The stock was $87 a share and now what it is? Less than $4. You call that doing a good job? The reason the board was reelected is because everyone sold off their losing stock.

  68. This blog helps bring some justice and accountability to GCI. Without it, look what happened. The suits ran the place into the ground, bought lavish buildings and equipped them with every toy imaginable, paid themselves whatever they wanted while giving us lousy 2 percent raises. I am not saying the blog can reverse that, but it does provide at least some cosmic justice and exposes some of Gannett's biggest follies and frauds.

Unfortunately, there is so much wrong at every level of Gannett, and especially USA Today, that it may never get fixed or operate in an honorable way. Look around you. See that coworker doing virtually no work or making countless errors? He or she is the product of a manager who doesn't have a handle on things. And that manager was put into the corner office by some bigger dog who has horrible instincts for hiring. So it goes on and on, and occasionally people write about it here in hopes that maybe some of it can get cleaned up eventually.

  74. I have to say, I've been a fan of this blog for a long time. But I watched Jim's buildup before the meeting on this blog and was a bit disturbed. Even more troublesome was seeing his performance and demeanor at today's shareholder meeting. His questions were lame, there was a tone of arrogance and an "I'm important, I'm going to get you and you can no longer avoid me" that was very childish and a waste of time. Particularly when Jim insisted on Dubow acknowledging Jim's name before the shareholders. I don't know what to think, now. I don't agree with all the obvious intentional anti-Jim bashing. But Jim, you've got to figure out what you're trying to accomplish here. If you think you took on "the man" and won, you're mistaken. You came off like a buffoon.

I just get that stupid squirrel look when I ask the Senior Director about it. Also mentioned it in my review, talked to the V.P. and a lawyer pal of mine.

I do hope you get some type of justice. I'm sure what you have described above happens at mostly all the Gannett locations. They put out the old "Suggestion Box'' to encourage the employees to submit their ideas, then they steal them, giving the originator no credit at all, thus leaving them feeling very dismayed and discouraged.

They hide their homophobia and cowardice behind their anonymous posts. Despite all their bravado, they are just as shitting scared to lose their jobs as the rest of us were.
And, whoever said the main poster seems to be from "Joisey" was probably right on the money. And yeah...I'm from "Joisey" too. And I'll bet my morning Taylor Ham and Egg sandwich it's the same loon who has been ranting about "BUILDING CONDITIONS PEOPLE!"
How typical of someone who is frustrated with their own lot in life to stoop down and attack someone's sexual orientation. It's like a little kid who gets bullied and comes back with some lame "your mama" quip. Grow a set and put forth a valid argument. Sounds like your "reporting" methods could make you a better candidate for The Enquirer of The Star as opposed to a REAL newspaper.
Face it, we all worked/work for a company that had highly paid executives who wanted to get in, get what they could and get out. They didn't even entertain keeping us "up" with the times. Discouraging the future of blogging, Twitter and the Internet in general is probably the main reason that Gannett is in the toilet. And maybe that was their plan all along. What do they care? They have golden parachutes that they can escape in. And they aren't losing one second of sleep over all the good news people they put out on the street. They got what they wanted.Big, fat bonuses...earned by grinding YOU into the ground.
But hey, who cares? We are just the little, insignificant people.
Jim...you ROCK. I wish I had half your guts. Ignore the fools. Obviously, Gannett was FULL of them.

  80. 4:46 pm totally gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jim, you totally DON'T get it. You embarrassed many of us--and more importantly, yourself--today

  82. Well said, Jim.

But did you have any opinions on the post made by 4:36?

    Amir,
I feel your pain. Unfortunately, your employer owns any and all of the work you do for them. They can "borrow" all they want.<<<
    -------
That is well and fine, but the 5th floor BM department pits artists against each other; individual promotions and raises rely on how many projects we "win" and artists are nominated for departmental awards for creative designs. These two snakes, the manager and Mary Anne Cristiano, went out of their way to inflict a vigorous series of power yoga postures to inflict damaging skeletal damage to a "worthless peon."

I do hope you get some type of justice. I'm sure what you have described above happens at mostly all the Gannett locations. They put out the old "Suggestion Box'' to encourage the employees to submit their ideas, then they steal them, giving the originator no credit at all, thus leaving them feeling very dismayed and discouraged.<<<
    -------
The BM Department has a dusty, wooden "Suggestion Box" for show and intimidation. If management doesn't agree with a review of their leadership and performance, they exact revenge. This 5th floor Brand Marketing relies on FEAR of the Senior Dictator, er, Director, transplanted from Gannett.

  85. I'm proud to say, more than ever, that I hired and promoted Jim Hopkins at the Arkansas Gazette many years ago.

I blog myself and I know some of the comments here today come with the territory. Enough said about that.

From afar, it seems to me that Jim closed the circle today on an exclusive story about a curious charitable contribution he'd been trying for months to report. Bully for him.

I know a little bit, too, about being a non-mainstreamer up against a newsmaker who's ignored, marginalized or benefitted from puppets' attacks on a reporter.

You can get a little emotional when, at last, there's a breakthrough.

Demand to be acknowledged by name? Next question, Mr. Hopkins.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The only circle Jim closed today is the one from partial nutcase to full-blown loony.

  87. Once again, this blog proves its worth. Whoever posted last week about Hunke got it 100 percent right.

  88. "Once again, this blog proves its worth. Whoever posted last week about Hunke got it 100 percent right."

The reality: Some anonymous fool threw some shit at the wall, and it happened to stick this time.

The bullshit "tips" here still outnumber the genuine ones by at least 10-1.

    ReplyDelete
  89. "5-1: Jim is exposed as a fraud at the meeting."

    Somebody nailed that one.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Jim, did you tell AP you were selling that fake vial of crack before the meeting?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think it's good that he went and asked his questions.

I have been following this blog for over a year and find the recently increased number of offensive posts suspect.

IMO, this blog serves as a big spot for accountability. Down the road, those who sit on Gannett's board of directors or on its operating committees won't simply be able to claim ignorance when the company tumbles. This site is serving to provide the names of those responsible and examples of their gross misconduct.

The folks at Gannett have a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders to ensure that the company is being managed effectively, not mismanaged.

    Thank goodness for Jim.

The managers need to be held accountable to0 for their constant and continuing leaning to perpetuate a hostile work environment.

    ReplyDelete
  93. He's done nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Jim's bowels are hostile. Too much foreign semen and red meat and not enough cleansing.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I know of a person in St Cloud MN named Bill Albrecht who used gannett foundation money to take his customers to a pheasant farm hunting. The money was placed in to a community fund and then used to take his friends and internal buddies out for a free hunt on the Gannett Foundation.

  96. 7:27 and 7:51 are speaking for most of us. 4:26 (or was it 4:36) gave the best description of what has been going on.

The homophobic comments have shown the very low mentality of SOME of our employees. It would have been fairly easy for Jim to strike back with so equally vulgar expressions describing heterosexuals-- but he was too busy to even think of lowering himself to your level.

Very rarely does anyone ever have the guts to confront the big shots at stockholders' meetings. JIM MADE US PROUD!

Let's look at Jim's experience in religious terms! Paraphrased from the bible-- "He had no greater love than to put everything on the line for his friends." And as followed history, Jim was crucified on this blog.

  97. She does seem to be a hack and not have a clue about design. Unfortunately, I don't think you can sue because everything you created, was on Gannett's watch and they own it all. She appears to be someone who just wants to get a head at the expensive of others. What goes around comes around. Some day the same thing will happen to her and it will be sweet poetic justice for you. Time has a way of taking care of these things. What you energy put out will come back to you. And it sounds like it's all negative from her.

I've seen some great stuff from 6th floor and A.Z., but it's not 6th floor, it's all 5th floor, the manager and Mary Anne Christiano gossiping and deciding artists' fates. The manager copied one artist's font and layout (mine) and placed it on top of another artist's background. The manager sat right beside me and manipulated the layout it for weeks. I just get that stupid squirrel look when I ask the Senior Director about it. Also mentioned it in my review, talked to the V.P. and a lawyer pal of mine.

    ReplyDelete
  98. What are you talking about, 8:22? Should we know? Should we care?

Reads like yet another sheep trying to sound smart and failing.

  99. Mary Ann is a great person and a hard worker. You are no different than Jim in trying to use the wrong forum to attack people.

  100. I sure hope those assholes from the other day noticed the last item on the Moneyline in today's issue of USA TODAY. You know, the one that noted Hilton has signed on for three more years with USA TODAY.

Or do you need a personal note from Hilton?

    4/28/2009 11:08 AM

Well, shouldn't you be one of them since you're doing the posting on company time?

Funny, how the ones doing the syphoning are the sycophants. Imagine that. LOL!

  124. Honestly, it was embarrasing for everyone that was watching today. Their were no real "tough" questions, hard hitting journalism, or anything even close. It was really awkard to watch someone reaching so much while pacing in circles. It reminded me of the meth addicts that you see on TLC. I think instead of donating funds we should be getting you some type of help.

I really hope their is video out there of this meeting. Your interpertation on what went down is exactly opposite of what everyone else watched.

If you've spent 20years being a journalist you should have picked a different profession.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Like it or not 9:57, he went to the meeting. It was somebody asking questions on our behalf instead of another rubber stamp for the loser board of directors headed by Craig Dubow. I suspect the negativity posted here today and of late has been taking a page from the Neocon playbook. And look where that's got them, right? You can sit back and let Dubow bankrupt us all or you can express your discontent. Ripple 6, Metromix, Pluck, Info Centers, Content One haven't made us better. You can't fire all the players, so the manager has to go.

    ReplyDelete
  126. 9:50 PM, I know who you are!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I too think all the negative posts are suspect.

Jim: I don't know what to do about this because if you ban posts attacking you it makes you look like you have something to hide. But the handful of good posts we do see are now mired in a river of lame shit like, "Jim sucks," and homophobic quips.

In other words, It's getting harder and harder to get past all the noise.

I'm not against well thought out criticism of Jim, but the homophobic rants, talk of dried semen and "you suck" comments are making the blog a drag.

I suppose that's just what these flamers are going for. Any ideas on how to solve the problem? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  128. The rejects who couldn't hack it at Gannett keep trying to counter the insults. But they have never been sharp enough to control any discussion.

    4/28/2009 9:19 PM

9:19, you have it backwards, only rejects who can't work anywhere else still work for Gannett. Hope you enjoy losing a third and fourth week of pay this year. The following year they will do two week per quarter because idiots like you will take it, you have no talent to work anywhere else

    ReplyDelete
  129. yeesh. I feel bad for you Jim. Harassments by homophobes aside, you really did blow it today. This isn't coming from some corporate shill. I certainly have no axe to grind with you, other than how you came off at today's shareholder meeting and how you are hyping your performance on the blog. As an observer and journalist, I can tell you what I gleaned from your performance and where you failed. You had an opportunity that you lost as soon as you demanded Dubow acknowledge you by name. It denegrated into silly questions about VIP seating and asking, once again, about foundation money wasted on Dubow's personal pet project and Dickey's golf outing - two questions repeatedly hashed over in this blog.
Photographing a 68-year-old director and contending she showed up the CEO? That's a real stretch, too. The question is, where do you go from here? Do we really care about Al Neuharth's illegitimate daughter? She's 48 years old. He hasn't been CEO in 20 years. I suggest you take a few days off and close the blog down so you don't come under repeated attack and figure out your next move.

  131. I have an idea. Let's give Craigy and his Jim Blog Bashers a To-Do list. That way, instead of getting on here and wasting time, venting their anger at Jim for defending the Little Guy...maybe they can redeem themselves. (Not they probably CARE to redeem themselves, but maybe one or two of them will see the light of some moral imperative buried deep inside them)
    1) Get on the horn with Hewitt and kick some ass! HR doesn't know what Hewitt is doing. BC/BS doesn't know what Hewitt is doing and Caremark is giggling away at THEIR corporate headquarters, trying to find new ways to drive Gannett current and former employees insane with paperwork, rules that change with the cycle of the moon and appeals that fall in to black holes.
    2) Cut the crap with self-aggrandizing scholarship funds. Maybe this impresses the good ole boys at the country club, but it's a smack in the face to those of us struggling to put food on the table.
    3) ACCOUNTABILITY!! Take some of your damn bonus money and institute a program to help our misplaced, middle aged workers who were laid off. Step up to the plate and WORK with the government (as you are SUPPOSED to), whenever you have a mass lay off. Many corporations, a lot more tapped out than Gannett, are at least TRYING to get their laid off workers some retraining.
    4) Someone, for God's sake, TEACH HR how to handle laid off employees questions! Gather the info for each state on available programs...food banks, retraining, Cobra.Make yourselves available to ex-employees.You MAY just meet one of us again in another life!!
    5) THINK before you slash and burn anymore papers. If the content SUCKS, it doesn't matter HOW damn cheap the paper is or all your cost cutting games. No one is going to buy a paper that can't even keep up with snail mail news! I get obits on famous people from my grandmother before I read it in my local GCI paper.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure you people have many more. Craigy...you and your posse should spend less time bashing Jim and more time trying to redeem yourselves. Or look, just do us all a favor...take your money and run. Let NEWSPAPER people run GCI.

    Get. Over. Yourself.
